Joe121212 1 Posted February 13, 2014 Hello, before I had sleeve surgery, I was taking 2400 mg. prescription Motrin for hip arthritis and herniated disks in my back. Now with the surgery I can no longer take the Motrin. Do any of you have similar pain issues? If so, what is your doctor giving you for sleeve safe pain medications? Thank you in advance. Joe. woo woo 872 Posted February 13, 2014 I am pre-sleeve but my doc gave me Tramadol for back pain in anticipation of the surgery. It is non-narcotic.
BigGirlPanties 957 Posted February 13, 2014 I am surprised that they didn't tell you or prescribe you a different medication! I can only take Tylenol for regular pain...no advil or aleve anymore... call your doctor for help on that, please, you want to get the right information for you! BKLYNgal87 503 Posted February 13, 2014 (edited) Your doctors said no more NSAIDs period post-surgery? There's no real medical rationale for that unless you are prone to ulcers or something. You don't take the NSAIDs 2 weeks prior to and 2 weeks after surgery because it puts you at a greater risk of bleeding. After that, it's okay and anyone who tells you otherwise is an alarmist with no evidence. Though 2400 mg is a lot of motrin, sleeve or no sleeve. Do you have an orthopedist? You should make an appointment and discuss your options for the future. Edited February 13, 2014 by BKLYNgal87 1 Danni-doinit4me reacted to this
Danni-doinit4me 140 Posted February 13, 2014 I was given liquid Ibuprofen for the weeks after my surgery, and now I can safely take Advil as needed. I used to be a daily user of Advil and Tylenol. Now I may take Advil once every 2 weeks!!
Katcloudshepherd 630 Posted February 13, 2014 My orthopedic doc prescribed Voltarin gel. I apply 2 gms. per affected area every 4 hours. It is an NSAID which goes through the skin. I have a severe back problems and knee problems. Check with your orthopedic doc or primary care doc and see if you can get the Voltarin gel. I hope you can get it and hope it works for you. It has helped my herniated disc and knees that are shot. I take Tylenol also. I also take Esther C vitiamins and fish oil to help with the inflamation as well. 1 Fiddleman reacted to this
Kindle 8,667 Posted February 13, 2014 Talk to your surgeon and doctor. Maybe even consult a pain management specialist. They may have other options for you besides the old standby NSAIDS and narcotics. For me, chiropractic, acupuncture, resveratrol and tramadol have been great for my neck and back pain even before VSG.
