In all of my pre-surgery "training", I was told that it's very common to get thrush after surgery. It's from the heavy doses of antibiotics. You should call your doctor's office and let them know what's going on. You might need an anti fungal medication.

Here is a little blurb on it....

Thrush and Yeast Infections

You may notice a white, cottage cheese-like coating on your tongue after surgery. Your tongue may also be very red and inflamed. Most likely you have thrush, which is a yeast overgrowth in the mouth. Often, this is due to large amounts of antibiotics taken before surgery. Call your primary care doctor if you have an oral infection or a rash on your skin.

I don't recall having a white tongue. Have you scrubbed it and how long has it been that way? Does it feel numb at all? Is there anything out of the ordinary besides the discoloration?

Have you been on antibiotics? Could be thrush. Common with oral antibiotics sometimes

I had that, and just happened to have a check up at the dentist office around that time... the dentist told me I was dehydrated. There was no "cottage cheese" or anything slimy to indicate thrust (yeast infection). Things fixed up a few days later after I was able to get more fluids down. The anesthetic has a drug to prevent you from vomiting...which also dehydrates you. It took a few days to get out of my system.

diabetis can cause thrush too. in fact that was how i was diagnosed. but in this case i would assume you are a little bit dehydrated. but it is something you should let your doctor know about.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
