Side Effects of Surgery and Supplementation

Recommended Posts

I am sitting here at 5 months losing 52 lbs. I am happy. I take the Multi Vitamins, Calcium, d3 and B12 required. But I also take Biotin, cranberry, probiotic and a anti-inflammatory (which spell check won't let me add).

I visited with my aunt last weekend and she was amazed at my face. I had Bells Palsy 7 years ago. I was left with one side drooping and hearing loss. A month prior to that I had sudden hearing loss syndrome. So between both of those, I have pretty moderate hearing loss. I have tried everything they told me to do but hearing and droopiness only got a little better.

Also went in for another hearing assessment a week ago. He told me that I was hearing better.

Solo I account all of this to having my surgery and taking supplements. Quite a nice side effect I think.

That is awesome to hear! I am truly happy for you. It feels good to take control of the weight but the perk of regaining good overall health is pretty much priceless too :)

OMG... I had 'Sudden Deafness Syndrome' in 2001. I was hospitalized for over a week to try and get my hearing back. I got like 75% back but if I am in a loud room and someone tries talking into my effected ear... I can't hear. You should inbox me. I have a theory about this sudden deafness.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
