Just got banded on Friday! And I'm so happy about it! I've been having some gassiness, slim trying to walk around a lot. I'm excited for this journey!

One annoying thing though (maybe you can relate) everyone around me now apologizes for eating, EVERYTIME! I've gotten to the point where I just snap back. I don't mean to be harsh, but I keep saying "don't feel sorry for me" "I CHOSE to do this" I just want to be apart of my family again, now I feel like they are just pitying me. They even went out to dinner and they felt horrible for telling me when they came back from errends. I told them "you know I can still go out, just right now all I can have is Soup." But I'd still like to be apart of the social aspect of it! Just frustrating, and I know it's a change not only for me, but my family too. Oh well, feels nice to rant. Lol.

Congrats on surgery. Glad everything went well. In 2 weeks I start my preop diet and I have to caution my husband about buying to much food since it will just be him eating it all. He's very supportive but I don't think he's aware of all the changes I have to make to be a healthy happier me. I think it's almost harder on family, we have researched and know exactly what we have to do to be successful, but they seem to think food is forever forbidden to us. I wish you the best of luck on this journey. :)

Congrats on your surgery ...glad it all went well and that you are feeling good!

It is an adjustment for everyone. I have the best supportive hubby ever and 2 small children to feed and its been a process....but it is doable. It is hard for others...they think we can't eat or we can't eat certain foods. It is a learning curve for everyone...just have patience. I know in the beginning my husband would tell me I couldnt have something and I would get mad at him and tell him that I can have whatever I want just in smaller quantities. He is just so used to helping me during the "diet" mode that it is just natural for him to say that. 5 months out and he's finally getting it and my kids are now used to mommy eating on a smaller plate without questionning it.

Wishing you all the best...keep us posted!

your family is trying to be supportive. my family was the same way and finally we just don't talk about it anymore. i like it that way. my hubby just reminds me to slow down. that is his contribution to my weight loss. and i do need to be reminded. as time goes by your family will get used to the new you and your new eating habits.

My family and friends were the SAME WAY!!!! They really are just trying to be supportive, even though it gets frustrating for you. But eventually you will heal and move on to regular foods and guess what? They will kind of forget about it! Being banded is a way of life and your family will adjust with you and then not even notice it! Try to be patient with them, and come here to rant anytime!!!!

Congratulations on your journey!!

We love to rant -- this is a great place for that! I hate it when people hyper-focus on me in any way. Congratulations on your surgery. I think my family is pretty pleased with my small portions as it means more for them when we go out. My son loves to cook (he's 18 and has that chef stripe running through his personality) and he sometimes wants me to taste stuff. That can be a little awkward as I know he wants my feedback but I can't eat just then. But it all works out. I notice how much my husband eats. He's in the kitchen right now having a mini-meal and I would have been right there with him before. I've had nothing yet today -- it's only 10:30 and early for me -- but he is on meal #2 with a few to go by the end of the day. I realize how many calories I am doing without.

Congratulations on a successful surgery! & we all need a place to rant- especially with a major lifestyle change that comes with having weight loss surgery. I'm almost 3 years (3 years in May) post op Lap Band, and I have had a couple of situations where co-workers were worried about the amount of food I was eating when we would go out on staff lunches, which can be frustrating! But once they realized I had surgery, then the worry goes away.

I would mentally prepare for the comments- usually people do not do it to "tease" you about food, but it can be hard the first couple of weeks for people to get used to your new lifestyle & for you to adjust as well. Once that time goes by, the comments usually stop. If it continues, I would speak with them about how even though they think they are being supportive, that apologizing about eating in front of you isn't necessary. & once you move on to regular foods, there shouldn't be anything to comment about (except then you'll get comments about your weight loss)

Thanks everyone for your input! I don't feel as crazy knowing that I'm not alone! Love this site to find people who can relate!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
