Exercise -- Honest Answers...

I'm exactly two weeks post-op. When I hit the treadmill, I can only take about 15 minutes at 2.5mph. I exit the treadmill feeling very "light headed." My calorie intake is averaging 500-600/day.

My surgeon said I'm losing above average based on my starting weight (28lbs in a month). But I'm concerned about exercise...

How much were you / are you able to exercise per day?

at two weeks out I could only do 15-20 minutes on the treadmill and increased the rate and incline each time I went. I still get lightheaded and have been told it's due to my blood pressure dropping. if you are on any blood pressure meds, make sure your doc knows how you are feeling..... you might need to come off of them. Amazing what a little weight loss can do!

At 2 weeks all I was allowed was walking. I would one mile around the track at my gym. Fitness trainer said no machines.

I felt like sh#t the first month. I am amazed you are on a treadmill already, good for you! That said, do what you can and don't over-do it so that you won't keep it up. 15 minutes is fine. Keep it up and add a little more every week. By 3 months you will be feeling so much better and will be amazed at how much you can do.

At 3 weeks I was on the stair master for 15 minutes and doing various weights for 25 minutes. The first week was rough. I got light headed too, but for me I just wasn't getting enough Water. Working out will definitely get me drinking now. I'm still trying to figure out why they opened a gym right behind a McDonald's, UHG!!!! And there is never parking at the gym, because everyone is at McDonald's. Cruel and unusual punishment!

When I was two weeks out, I considered walking around the block a major victory. I wasn't cleared for exercise until four weeks out. Take it easy on yourself and stay hydrated.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
