Recommended Posts

What does your typical day of food consist of?

How far out are you?

Please include when you drink your Water.< /p>

I am 3 mo the post op and am looking for some ideas. What you eat, when you eat and what you drink. No judgment here. :)

11 months post op....

16oz hot herbal tea with meds N Vitamins

Breakfast : 4oz oatmeal or 2 eggs w/cheese or 3oz any meat w/ 1.5oz veggie ( I like variety)

16oz Water w/ crystal light

Mid day snack: 1/2 fruit or 1/2 no sugar added apple sauce

lunch : 3oz. meat ( lately its either baked wings or sautéed beef liver) and 1.5 oz veggie

16oz Water

Snack: dannon fit n light yogurt or 8 almonds and 1 oz cheese or a Protein shake

16oz herbal tea

Dinner: 3 oz. meat or 4 oz. of chili etc.

Most people at this stage can eat more than this at a time.. My NUT said I should be able to eat anywhere from a half a cup to a whole cup by a year post op but I'm lucky if I can eat 5 oz at a time. So I have 2-3 Snacks in between my meals. I eat roughly 750-800 calories a day and I'm sure I'm suppose to eat more. But that's my day !!

4am: Wake up, shower & coffee and a lot of it!!!..lol

8:30am: @ work..like clock work: oatmeal w/ blueberries, ground flax seed, bananas, & unsweetened applesauce..(I eat the same thing EVERYDAY just so it takes the guest work out of my busy mornings)

.

10:30am: snack, is 2 Quaker caramel corn flavored rice cakes w/ Smuckers Natural creamy Peanut Butter.

Lunch: a 16oz 'flavor of the day' shake (sometime a fruit smoothie, sometimes a coffee deluxe flavor, or creamsicle flavor..I have some great shake recipes)

2pm: I gotten out the habit of eating at this time, maybe a banana to curb the hunger, if I feel hungry...just a personal preference, it interferes with my going to the gym and my vigorous workouts.

5pm: finally at home, another shake.

6:30pm: This meal varies a lot, but my plate size stays the same, a small salad plate. I NEVER exceed or stack my plate. I concentrate on chewing my food to a complete mulch. I swallow and wait till my food hits my stomach before I take another bite. This meal takes a while.

I usually don't eat after this meal, if I do, I grab a piece of fruit or micro popcorn. Of course it changes from day to day, but this was my routine today...thanx for asking.. :D

Ok..so my daughters over my shoulder reading as Im typing..she says I evaded the 6:30pm meal..sorry she said you want to know what I eat.

ok well some days on my plate is a salmon filet, w/ broccoli, and a small side fruit bowl (blueberries, pineapple, mango)

Other days, Baked chicken filet, w/ steamed kale, carrots, & avocado slices, w/ a side bowl of fruit (apples, bananas, blueberries)...you get the idea.

Im a bit of an extremist, I don't put any butter or sauces on my food. BUT>>> I AM A SPICE-A-HOLIC!!!!...I eat every veggie I can get my hands on, I bake them, sauté them, broil & boil them..lol

Dee and lilboo, you both have such a great grasp on your days. I am happy to see that you both are working so hard towards your goals. At 3 months out, I find seeing how others normalize their day so helpful. As a "newbie" it can be quite discouraging to get everything in, and when I see others do it, it makes it easier to breathe and I know with practice I will get there too.

At 5 months out, this is where I'm at:

-Up at 4:45, 24oz of Water and Vitamins while I am on my way to the gym and working out.

-Breakfast at 7:30, Protein shake, or egg and bacon/chicken sausage and a piece of toast.

-Another 16oz Water, followed by a cup of coffee, followed by another 16oz water.

-If I had a Protein Shake for Breakfast, I usually need a snack by 10am. String cheese or a piece of fruit.< /p>

-If I had snack, another 16oz water before lunch.

-Lunch by 12, 3oz deli sliced turkey and a string cheese, or leftovers from dinner the night before.

-16oz water

-Snack around 2:30-3, greek yogurt

-16oz water

-Dinner starts at 5 or so and I split it into two eating sessions. First, I eat my veggies, steamed or roasted (asparagus, broccoli most often). Then about an hour later I eat my Protein, 3oz grilled chicken breast or grilled hamgurger patty, or sometimes breakfast for dinner of egg/chicken sausage scramble. Steak once every week or two.

-8oz water, and 8oz milk

I'm nearly two months post-op and having some trouble (1) eating enough and (2) keeping meals down. I'm only a week into hitting more than 500 calories and 50-65 grams of protein; had a chat with Nut who said I need to eat more, gradually getting to 1200 cals by 3-month mark.am totally stalled in weight loss for the past 3-4 weeks.

630 am - 15 oz Water with Vitamins

730 am - either half a Protein drink OR a slice of whole-grain toast with a slice of cheese or 1T Teddies Peanut Butter OR 1/2 a Protein Bar (this is in car on way to work during my one-hour commute)

I get my 16oz cup of Water as soon as i get to work and drink water between meals at work, aiming for 16 oz before noon and another 16 oz before end of work.(the latter sometimes fails or falls short)

1000 am - Greek yogurt with blueberries OR 1/4 c cottage cheese with peaches or apple OR string cheese with apple

1200 noon - take afternoon pills

100 pm - lunch - 1/4 c salad (lettuce, cuke, tomato) with 1 oz chicken, 1/2-1 hard boiled egg, a little edamame and 1T feta with oil and vinegar. But, yesterday this didn't work for me (read: barfing at work is not fun).

300-400 pm - snack - either cheese and fruit OR 1/2 Protein Bar or shake OR a slice of whole grain toast with 1 oz meat

5:30-630 - gym (3-4 times/week: 30 mins bike or treadmill, plus 20-30 mins of weight machines)

630-Ish pm - take evening pills with 10 oz water

630 - 730 - dinner, typically 2 oz meat (fish, chick, turkey burger, haven't tried steak yet) and a 1/4 c veg. Tonight will be 1/4-1/2 c homemade beef chili with some cheese and sour cream. The other night I made 2 oz fish with 1/4 of a sweet potato and a 1/4 c green Beans ( ate most of fish, all potato and maybe 3 Beans - barfed)..

800 pm - take night pills with 10 oz water

830 - 900 - maybe a snack, but not usually. Depends on what I ate/got down during day. Last night it was 1 oz cheese.

Lots of frustration! Bored with food, sick of barfing daily, working out regularly, but totally stalled in weight loss. Was hoping to go to my support meeting tonite, but will probably be cancelled since we're getting a foot of snow. I just want to lie on a beach somewhere and not think about anything!

I had my surgery 12/30/13 and for a month was having significant trouble keeping food down and getting it in. It turns out my stomach opening was too tight, went to doc and had a dilation. I am doing much better as long as I eat slowly. May be worth a check with your doctor?

Oh my goodness everything sounds so yummy. Thank you again for contributing. I know I have not added my own days, and that is because I am struggling haha. I am finally able to get in fluids, but having to go in for emergency surgery a few days ago and having an allergic reaction has set me back..... again. You are all amazing and thank you for helping your fellow wls's!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
