Got a fill, no restriction UNTIL 5 days later. Is this normal? Or sign of slippage?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I've been a banded for 7 years now, and had a 6 month hiatus of a de-fill with no restriction. I was ready to get back up again and have been going up in increments of 0.5 cc. I got a fill 4 or 5 days ago for a additional 1 cc and had little to no restriction. This is a big jump for me, and I thought I should have felt something, but nothing! Normally, I feel restriction right away and stick to Soups for the first two days until it sort of settles. This time, it was as if I had the same if not less restriction. The following day I was able to eat sushi, the same amount as my friend who doesn't have a lap band.

Then day 4 or 5, I'm so restricted that I can't keep fluids down in the morning, but can some Soup in the pm.

I'm not a worrier and if I had off days I just coast until swelling goes down, but I've never experienced the reverse... i.e. restriction drastically increasing a few days later.

Now, from reading other posts, I found out, (after 7 years of being banded!) that being on your period can cause restriction. It just so happens that I got my period last night.

I'm going to give it a few days before I seek a de-fill or ask my doctor, but have any of you experienced drastically more restriction 4 or more days AFTER getting the fill? My doctor is 150km away so I don't seek help unless i ABSOLUTELY have to.

I'm worried about slippage. Hot peppermint tea has always gone down even at the worst time, and this morning I could only have half a cup of that.

Any thoughts?

i think your way of thinking is the correct one. my doctor wants me to wear a ring , any ring so it will let me know if i am having swelling. apparently our hands swell first with TOM, or me cardiac edema. if the ring is tight , her theory is the band maybe tight and to eat as one would if just filled. as long as you are getting some fluids down i would first call your doctor office to let them know what is going on and get some advice from them and, second to continue to do what you are doing, sipping fluids and trying mushies like yogurt, and cream Soups, refried Beans etc. good luck i hope it works out

It takes two weeks before I know exactly how a fill is working. I notice it right away, but 10-14 days it seems to really settle in.

Good idea about the ring! Never thought of that. For me, things normally settle 3 days after a fill, but 2 weeks makes sense. It reminded me that my doctor doesn't allow fills to be less than 1 month apart as he says it can take up the a few weeks to settle.

I'm going to ride out the two weeks since I can keep Soups down in the PM. In the meantime my body will hate me for the lack of Fiber intake...

I'm still praying there is no sort of slippage or corrosion. I'm pushing 8 years now, and I was told the lap band can last anywhere from 10-20 years.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
