Nausea 18 Days Post Op

Recommended Posts

I am 18 days post op and still having severe nausea. I'm looking for anyone who experienced the same thing. I need help. I am taking the max dosage of Zofran twice a day. Anyone have suggestions? It's not my Vitamins. Taking antacid doesn't make a difference. Mainly it's Protein Drinks that make me the most ill. Talking or thinking about a Protein Shake can make me dry heave. It comes on fast like morning sickness but I am definitely not pregnant.

Hi Bry, I created a new thread for you in the Post Op section. Hopefully more folks will be able to answer your question here.

I was having the same problem. I stopped my Protein Shakes and have been trying to get my Protein levels in with food. I feel much better. Also after surgery I found I am more sensitive to dairy. I haven't talked to my nutritionist about not doing the shakes yet so I'm not telling you to do it but it worked for me.

Hi,

Has your doctor advised you to take any B12 or B1? I was so nauseous I couldn't keep anything down. My doctor did labs and notice my B1 was low and my B12 was on the lower normal side. I started taking them and after awhile I felt so much better. Just a suggestion.......it worked for me :).

I can't tolerate the Protein shakes anymore either. They just don't sit well with me.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
