Food(s) you thought you loved...

Recommended Posts

I was just chatting with Carolina Girl about food we used to love.

B4band, one of my go to Snacks was this sandwich:

Dense, high Fiber, whole grain bread. You know, the ones that a loaf weighs enough to qualify as a workout weight?

Peanut Butter, jiffy, extra crunchy please.

Jam, preferably strawberry but any berry type worked.

Bologna, 2 slices.

Miracle whip on one slice of bread, Peanut Butter on the other, jam on PB and bologna on the miracle whipped side, press together. Large glass of 2% milk. Enjoy.

Now, I haven't had one of these in over 2 years, but I'll bet I still love it. So therefore, I won't go there but while I'm fantasizing about winning powerball, I can fantasize about my PBJB sandwich. :D

I have eaten hummus just fine - I think that I could get carried away with it because I need to eat like crackers or something with it - just not out of those little single serve packages. Applebees has a 500 calorie and under menu and its pretty good. 500 calories is a lot - but I only eat half of the serving and save the other half - so its 250 calories, which is better.

Are you on my fitness pal? On my fitness pal you log in your food and it calculates your calories. It might help you - I've also added the food in just to see how many calories before I eat it - so you could log your Applebees Green Goddess salad on there and see how many calories it is and then you can decide whether or not its worth it - or maybe you can just have half.

I would suggest having a diary for your daily intake of calories, at least at first. I had no idea how many calories I was consuming until I started logging my food on my fitness pal app. I hope that helps :)

Thanks for the tip about my fitness pal. That's really awesome. I didn't know that.

New item for me...

Last night/today I've been suffering from a bad headache/migraine. Been taking pills, coffee for caffeine, etc and nothing was helping. One of my old standbys was a coke. I used to drink them and they'd help. Even though I'm not supposed to have soda I'm desperate today. Could barely get through half of one - too sweet and doesn't taste good!

i used to be a big slushie, icee, soda drinker, now i find that anything with that much sugar is disgusting. my body also rejects most fried, sugary, and chemically processed foods. I do miss things from time to time, like sandwiches, sushi, bread, rice, but just thinking about how long and problematic it will be kills the craving mighty quick

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
