I'm very curious how folks are feeling after more than a 1 1/2 years out from getting the sleeve. Does your appetite change over time? Become more/less manageable? For those who have honestly followed all the rules, can you still feel full on the recommended portions? Or is hunger still a constant struggle? All feedback is welcome. Thanks in advance!

I am 19 months out and deal with hunger by, well, eating often. If I am ever hungry, I go eat some Protein which might even be a baby bell lite, but usually a little solid lean protein. Meals are every 3 hours and have 3-4 oz of dense protein and 1-2 oz of veggie. I eat carbs in the form of Fiber one for 1st meal (with a premier shake) and steel oats/fiber one/protein powder before working out. I know, it is a strange combo, but it really helps with energy during short, but intense, CF workouts (10-30 min of metabolic conditioning and 10-20 min of lifting). Last meal is a filling casein shake. So there you have it. I start eating at 6 am and finish at 9 pm trying to eat as much protein as possible in 3-4 oz portions. This keeps my insulin response fairly constant and there are no uncontrollable urges to scarf something. However, there are times when I am hungry 1 hour later. I just go eat something in the form of lean protein.

i never feel hungery at all everrrr never have had hunger pangs.

i actually have to remember to eat and my sleeve is a tricky little thing at the best of time!

so no change for me as far as hunger goes i can eat a bit more per meal and without puking about 7/10 times which is more than 6months ago.

I'm 4 years post op and I'm "hungry" all the time...but pretty sure it's my addiction to food that's causing my need to eat. During the first 3 years I fell back into my old habits because I could eat whatever I wanted and still not gain. That's not the case anymore. I'm struggling so hard to eat like I'm supposed to. Advice for early post op'ers that are still following the rules: DONT EVER STOP FOLLOWING THE RULES!!!

I'll be three years out in May. Been at goal two years in March. My hunger is much more manageable post op, but it's still there, along with head hunger.

The difference for me post-op is that I CAN manage my hunger. I really tried pre-op, but I just couldn't get it under control. I knew what to do, but I couldn't follow through. I had to eat more to get full and head hunger seemed worse too.

Have you gained weight back? Are you eating whatever you want but smaller portions, or larger portions?

Are you still eating smaller portions?

Yes, I'm satisfied with much smaller portions. Pre- op, I would eat 3/4 cup of oats cooked with 1.5cups of Water. Now I eat 1/4 cup oats cooked with 3/4 cup Water. Before, I would eat 4-6 oz of Protein at dinner, a cup of something starchy, and a very large salad. Now I eat 3 oz. Protein, 1/3 to 1/2 cup something starchy and a very small salad. I'm satisfied with about 1/2 the food I ate pre-op.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
