Learned the hard way :(

I am at about 11 weeks post op and I can eat a small amount only though! chicken noodle Soup, half an english muffin, lasagna noodles. All that is Ok. I have a harder time with meats and of course I cannot eat near the amount of Pasta I used to. However, egg noodles are good and light and I have eaten some of the multi grain pasta made a type of mac n chz and it was good. Cannot have more than a ramekin of pasta though. Good luck and take it easy. I was on liquid/mushy for like 3-4 weeks.

You seem to be doing well and losing weight, but I am terribly afraid to eat carbs like you do. Of course we steered clear of them prior to surgery. I think I am afraid I will be able to eat them without a problem (unlike some people who get very sick), and then I would be eating a lot of carbs. I think I will stick to not pushing the issue. Continued good luck!

Oh yeah. Rice...a show stopper for me. I can have a couple of kernels peppered in a juicy mix of veggies and meat, but a spoonful of Rice...will get stuck and cause a very uncomfortable uproar. Soft squishy bread or Desserts same thing. It is a blessing quite frankly. I used to be able to eat my weight (formerly 60 lbs more than today) in bread, Pasta, rice, chips, popcorn...all the things I love and often crave. NOW...nothin' doin! I cannot tolerate it in any real quantity. Now I realize that the carb high is/was what I was/am addicted to. So now that I cannot gorge myself to the point of the high, I tend to avoid it or at least limit my exposure. Its weird, like now that I can't eat as much of it, it doesn't have the same appeal to eat just a bite or two, therefore I don't usually bother. I am so grateful for my tool...it has been the most effective thing I have ever done for my weight loss goals and attempts to be healthier. Good luck finding your limits and I hope you learn faster than I do.

I tried some canned green Beans today, green beans!!! And it made a guest appearance in 5 seconds flat!!! So I had a smoothie, ooooh did it taste delicious after that horrid experience! Just when you think you're ready......bam!

Man I wanted something smooth too but was so afraid to put anything in me :(

I hear you!

I have learned a smoothie is my "go to food", I haven't gotten sick from them "yet", and I hope it stays that way! My mind is so ready to eat soft foods, my stomach is the exact opposite. I feel like it wants me on liquids forever lol. fruit smoothies and yogurt (and my mind is so tired of yogurt haha). If I see another premier Protein shake its going to make an appearance too. I just finished the box.....I won't be buying another for a LONG time!

Sorry you had to go through that, hopefully the next time won't be as memorable ;).

Do you make them of get them from Kamba juice or something?

Be careful with Kamba Juice....I tried a smoothie from our local place and it made me so terribly sick I couldn't believe it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
