Stomach pain 3 weeks out

Recommended Posts

So I had my surgery 3 weeks ago ( 20th January) I am mostly back to normal, eating soft foods, so far so good. My problem is to the left of my belly button and under what I call my dent scar, the skin is still very bruised and tender, I can't bend, my internal pain has gone completely its just this small area that just seem to want to hang around and cause me pain, the heat pad helps a little but there are times when I have to resort to taking children's pain medication, since doctor said not to take Advil or Aleve just yet.

Does anyone else have this issue, I thought the pain and discomfort would of been gone by now.

Not sure about the pain, but your comment about not taking Aleve just yet has me very concerned. It is my understanding that as RNY patients we can NEVER have NSAIDS again. Please consult with your Dr. before taking Aleve!!!

Doctor only mention not taking them while healing was going on, I wasn't made aware that I'd not be able to take them ever again, I'll talk with him the next clinic visit. Thanks for making me aware of this.

I have the same issues. Surgery was Jan 9. My pain in that area started 3 wks out.. it was so bad yesterday I almost went to ER. I finally figured out what it is. I am having trouble going poo. . I only go about every 5 days. On day 4 and 5 it's pushing on my surgery area, especially when I bend or move a certain way. I went potty today and no pain at all today

I did a bit of research and think my pain is related to nerve end damage, my pain is more external then internal, it comes and goes with movement, it feels like a burning sensation.

The area between the belly button and the incision area us bad bruised as well.

I am 5 days post surgery and all my pain is the left side. This is where my surgeon explained he stands and does all the work, pushing and prodding. I also have a very very large bruise. I only need support there when I walk. I was also instructed to take only Dulcolax if no poo in 2-3 days once I start mushy food, Constipation is a "normal" side effect. Surgery site pain is also normal, nerves can remain irritated and painful for a long time so just give it more time (sorry). All surgeries are different and all people respond differently, I had a shoulder surgery many years ago that took 6 months before I could say I had no pain. Hang in there and just thing 6 months down the line, instead of () we will be )(.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
