band tight in the morning...anyone?

Recommended Posts

It is like that for most people. You just have to drink something hot and hope it helps loosen it up. Most people have Protein drinks for Breakfast.

My band has always been tighter in the morning. I start my day out with a smoothie (Protein powder, milk, greek yogurt, various fruit). By lunch time, it's loosened up & I'm ready to eat more solid/dense Protein. Alternatively, as Cheryl suggested, drinking a hot beverage in the morning should loosen your band as well.

Wouldn't it be awesome if the reverse were true... tighter in the evenings!?!

Yes, that really would be awesome! I am tight in the morning, too. Not feeling at all in need of anything until late-morning. Today I had a Protein shake with fruit but sometimes it's a yogurt or oatmeal with flax & chia seeds.

Your question begs an answer and I've only heard of two so far.

1. Someone once stated that when we lie down at night blood that has pooled in lower body(mostly legs) redistributes throughout our body including the lining in our stomach which makes the stoma smaller.

2. My own theory is, I think it takes several hours before my esophagus awakens. Seems like peristalsis in my esophagus doesn't get going till after 11 am?

I have no idea what the scientific answer is but for me #2 seems to fit?

Yup. My band isn't what I would describe as "tight" to begin with, I have it balanced, I don't really roll with restriction. But I do feel a little snug most mornings. I am not a morning eater, by nature; I like to have my coffee then, if I have a long, busy day ahead, I'll whirl up a Protein shake and slowly slurp that down after my coffee to carry me along until later in the day when I have the time or feel like eating something. Otherwise, I normally have my first solid meal somewhere in the neighborhood of eleven to noon-ish.

I have not had solid food for Breakfast for three years....feel sorry for my wife though, she likes to go out for a big breakfast...or when we travel....I will go with her and just have coffee and juice...

I've tried eggs, whatever, just waste them by throwing it away....my morning shake has to go down real slow also...

But I can swallow all my morning pills without crushing them...and 4 of them are large fish oil caps.......go figure.

B-52, I also have no problem with morning pills. I have one HUGE solid tablet that I knock into four pieces but I take them all at once with lots of Water and it doesn't give me any trouble. I think that it would hassle me if I tried to swallow it intact, tho. It's a huge, disc shaped tablet that I fear would form a lid like a manhole cover in my stoma. :P I have read that capsules even very large ones, aren't really a problem for most bandsters because they dissolve and break down so quickly at body temperature.

Yep, I have definite morning tightness. I have to wait about 2 hours after waking up before I can take my morning meds, and a while longer before I am able to eat even a few ounces of food. Usually by the time I am up around 3 hours or so I am back to normal.

Wow, 76 lbs in 5 months is incredible.

About 25 pounds of it came off in the 2 months of SWL that I had to do before my surgery, but I was busting my butt while I was going through it. Wife and I were at the gym probably 4 nights a week and everything I ate went into myfitnesspal (overstimated calories in, underestimated calories burned) and was getting close to my 10,000 steps / day goal most days.

The weather we've had this winter has kept us in and I haven't been as good about logging my food in myitnesspal. I've been doing better with logging my food this last week or so since my last adjustment, but we I haven't been making it to the gym or using our treadmill nearly as much as I should. Hopefully the weather will get nicer sometime soon so the wife and I will want to go out to the gym at night instead of curling up under the blankets and watching Netflix. I know I'm going to hit a point soon where the weight isn't going to come off nearly as easily.

Eastindguy, I hear ya on the weather. I'm a cyclist and the weather here has been terrible except the last few days and I just got back from a short ride. But, it's going to rain turning to snow soon and of course there's always the wind. Ugh. I'm an outdoor workout kindof guy myself.

Most of my weight came off as a result of hard workouts. If I'm not burning calories on my bike, recumbent, elliptical or racquetball, I aint losing weight cuz I keep my calorie intake close to 1600-1800.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
