I'm eating like a prisoner on death row

Recommended Posts

I am less than 3 weeks from my surgery date, I start on the 15 day liquid diet on Friday. Over the past couple days I have been going on a farewell tour of my favorite foods I am saying goodbye to after our long and intimate time together. Yesterday I used the Cheesecake Factory gift card I got for Christmas and tomorrow my mom is taking me to my favorite pizza joint for one last Chicago style thin crust sausage pizza. She is a little happy she no longer has to share pizza with me, she hasn't had a middle square in decades (Chicago thin crust is cut into squares, known as a party cut).

My weekday lunch time routine of going out to a local fast food joint will soon be replaced with a brisk walk at the gym or outside around my workplace. If I get really industrious I will go down to the nearby ice rink and skate through my lunch period. Change has come to my life. Welcome change, very necessary change. Change to bigger things with a smaller waistline.

food will be replaced by a healthy lifestyle and addiction to exercise I believe, looking at your post. Thank goodness you are young and fit enough to do these things to go along with your new plan of living. Your stats are similar to my husband, and he was sleeved 12/2. He is 65 with lots of health problems, so reading your post makes me proud that you are taking this step before you experience health problems like we did. Ten years ago we started this journey with seminars, but very cautious! Good luck on a new life!

Southside White Sox Fan here..........yeah it's funny about the Chicago cut - when you tell people they look at you like WHUT? And then you have to explain. Congratulations on the decision to get healthy with a sleeve. 15 days????? Man oh man, good luck with that....it's a daring feat of strength and fortitude that pays off grandly on the other side. Wishing you good health and happiness.

I had pizza and beer my last night before the pre-op diet. I can only speak for myself but I had say farewell to many foods too. I am glad I got it out of the way and in a way that defies logic, doing so helped me to focus on my long term goals.

Of all the food in the world. the only one I miss is a big plate of spaghetti and meatballs...truly...I think that was one of my worst addiction with food....I don't think I could have ever stopped it unless I got my sleeve...

Since my surgery...I made it once and could not eat any of it and that was the last time I made it....I miss it a lot..But that is it...The rest nope.....don't know why!?

I just had lunch, probably one of the last before I start pre-op later this week. I went to McDonalds, to be more specific I went to the 1,000th McDonalds in the chain. I wanted to try to enjoy this meal by eating slow and thinking about what I was eating. I was very disappointed in the results. The only thing that gave me a taste sensation was the salt on the fries. In reality, fast food is tasteless. Why did I eat it for so many meals for so long? I added up the calories for a Number 1 with an apple pie, 1,300 calories!!! It would have been even more if I didn't get the diet Coke. I can't wait to actually taste food and not just inhale it because I have to get back to work.

I have changed quite a bit in my eating habits. now I find sugar it be too sweet and it feels like it cuts me in the throat. I used to buy these Cookies that were healthy and eat one and tell my hubby that they tasted like dirt. No flavor but lots of Fiber... Now they are sweet and delicious.... You will have to let the change come slowly from eating wrong to eating right...

I have noticed that if we eat the same things we did before surgery then we can't learn nutrition and the cravings continue to wreak havoc on us...

I am so shocked that I find Cookies and cake to sweet....I am changing so much but it is a good change!!!!!!!!

It will happen to you. Like you said tasting the real flavor of the food you are eating is great!!!!!!!!

I can't remember the last time I ate MC Donald's . My daughter told me the other day that if I did decide to eat it my system would rebel because I have changed so much.....

Hoping great things for you too in your journey!!!!!!!!! :)

We have the world famous Garrett's popcorn here in Chicago. People wait in line for that stupid stuff. Even on a trip last summer to Tokyo Japan I found a Garrett's Popcorn shop with a line out the door.

It's good stuff but I'm sure I can't be good for you and I've been yelled at years ago about not eating popcorn. But there's nothing better than a nice big bag of a Chicago Mix (Carmel and cheese).

So THAT'S why they cut the pizza in squares at the Chicago-style pizza place here in SoCal!

And, yes, I had a 15lb-two week celebration. Surgery 4/11. My doc said I had to lose 15, now I have to lose 30... whoops.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
