For your consideration: dynamic stretching

Recommended Posts

Found this information on full body dynamic stretching yesterday and want to share it with the fitness group:

lunch. For a computer worker like myself, I think these dynamic stretches will make a noticeable difference in gaining more mobility and flexibility in hip and shoulder regions as well as being able to perform better during the daily workout and prevent injury.

Let me know what you think!

Good video. I recently purchased "Stretching" by Bob Anderson, 30th Anniversary Edition. Reviews on Amazon were very good and I decided to give it a look. According the first page of the book, it is one of the most popular fitness books of all time with 3.5 million copies sold worldwide and published in 23 languages.

I've only just started a daily stretching routine but have to say that I am most impressed with this book so far. The stretches are explained very well and the accompanying graphics are excellent. There are more than 150 stretches in the book for stretching virtually all muscle groups. The author stresses the importance of stretching properly (never bouncing and never to the point of painful) and of being aware of the muscle(s) you are stretching and how it feels. The book is organized with stretches for each area of the body e.g. back, shoulders, legs, hips, etc. and is fully indexed.

Note that the main focus of the book is static stretching as opposed to dynamic stretching. Static stretching is geared more to ordinary folks with dynamic stretching more appropriate for athletes.

Highly recommended!

Thank you for your wonderful comments and book recommendation. Static stretching still has a place and for me and I am going to make that as part of post workout. We shall see what kind of differences this realization makes.

Good one, Fiddleman, especially for me. Flexibility is a major issue at my age, joints are more of a problem than muscles at this point. I will give this a shot. Thanks!

Ive coached all ages of youth hockey, from 8 year olds to high school seniors. One year, with a higher tier club, we had mandatory off ice conditioning once a week at one of these elite performance centers. They swore by dynamic warm-ups and went so far as to prescribe and teach a team wide warmup for practice and game days. Too many kids just do the 'lay on the ice and make snow angels' stretching. Needless to say, we'd warm them up, stretch them, and send them to the locker room with a little sweat to put their pads on. That season we had zero long term muscle or joint injuries. I fully believe in dynamic stretching. But the corollary is you gotta be warm! Don't go in cold. At the gym you can do most of it right on the treadmill.

I need better stretching for sure. I am terrible. Going to need to invest in one of those books so I can be better at it.

Thanks for the video. The dynamic stretches are the same ones my Trainer has me do before we work out. It was nice to see that they are recommended by others. So far I haven't had any injuries so they seem to be working.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
