February 2014 post op losers

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone.

I did pretty good over Easter. I had one bite of my favorite candy ever and it totally got rid of my craving for it. So my sons huge Easter basket did not bother me at all.

The one thing that is really getting to me is soda. I'm on vacation and there's been many cases where I was like dying of their and the only thing on hand was soda, not even Water, and the first couple times I had a sip it would foam up and hurt going down, now it goes down fine and that really scares me. :( My NUT said carbonation can stretch out my pouch the same as over eating. Granted I have not drank cups full just sips here and there.

I am eating about 1 cup of food at the max. Somedays I barely want to eat and others I seem like bottomless pit but never really go over 1 cup.

Okay we'll other than that I am losing 5 lbs a week with little exercise due to being still on vacation but I'm staying as active as I can.

Sounds like everyone is doing well and made it through Easter ok. We went out for a brunch and managed some of a ham and cheese omelet. i still need to work on having more solid food. Today I had a meatball for lunch and that was yummy and went down great. I definitely don't think I could do 3 oz of meat though. I sometimes have a P3 (new Protein packs from Oscar Mayer) and they are 2 oz (some low fat cheese, almonds and turkey). I find them perfect. I tried my first salad as well and that was ok. Only problem is I can't eat very much and it's not much protein so then it feels like a waste. Anyone else struggle with that? I still haven't tried any sugar or Desserts, too chicken to dump!

Zom, great job being on vacation and still loosing 5lbs a week, that is amazing. I'm consistently at a 3lb avg per week. I won't be able to weigh for 3 weeks! Part of me is wondering how the heck I'm going to stay sane, but the other is excited to see a big jump (hopefully) after the 3 weeks. I have a cast on my leg and that is why I can't weigh. I go for my 12 week post op next week and I hope they won't make me weigh with the cast, that would be just cruel. LOL

Hi Kim and Zom,

I am not losing as much as I was, but I am going downwards and I think the weight loss is showing so I am just hanging on in there and hoping it will improve. I have lost 4.5 pounds in 3 weeks which is less than the 3.5 pounds per week which I was losing before. Fingers crossed it increases again.

I must admit I have tried small sips of soda for the same reason as Zom, nothing else was available and I started on sparkling Water which was only mildly fizzy first. I put in a lot of ice and mix it round a bit and leave it for a while. I also swill it round my mouth a bit, all to remove as much of the gas as possible. I really can't have more than a sip or three and when I asked my consultant he said that he was fine with that. I think that it is seen as an evil Fluid by many but realy how bad can it be in such tiny amounts. I still largely drink iced water but I will have it occasionally if the need arises and it quenches thirst much better for me.

Kim, I hope your leg is ok and I hope that your weight loss is truly amazing when your cast comes off

Claire

Hey everyone! I've been reading me catching up.

If anyone is on Facebook, add me. I'm /princessbuttercup77 or Erin Joleen Anderson.

I have a lot to say. But I just wanted to check in and say hi first.

I'm so glad RaeRae got her date!!

Zom went to my favorite place. We go to Disney all the time. We don't live far from there and we are usually pass holders.

I'm glad everyone's weight is inching down and Easter went well.

I love you guys.

Hi all you amazing people. This is it. My surgery is in about 12.5 hours. I report to the hospital in 10. Not thinking about it cause I think I will start freaking out and decide against it. I have actually had diarrhea since I walked out of my last appointment. I think it's nerves. I am alone here as we can't afford for my husband to stay in a hotel here for three nights. Besides, he has shoulder surgery coming up himself and he is in extreme pain and I don't want him to have to deal with me and his pain. My only problem is figuring out how to get checked out of the hospital. They are insisting I get picked up. I can't make friends drive 10 hours on a Sunday. My diet for t he next week is 64 ounces of gatorade a day and that's it. I went out and bought it this afternoon. Thoughts and prayers are appreciated.

Erin, nice to hear from you! I friended you on FB. Looking forward to your update.

ReaRaes, you are going to do great!! Try not to worry. I know easier said than done. Are you sure you will be in for 3 nights? They originally told me two, but then I got released after 1. Can your husband drive up and get you? Good luck with the gatorade diet, that sounds wild.

No, Dr. said since I live 5 hours from here I will definitely be in until Sunday. I am hoping that by then I can be on my regular pain pills that I can drive just fine while on. They have no effect on my reaction or senses.

Congratulations ReaRhaes! Hopefully you've now had the surgery - wishing you an uneventful recovery. You definitely want someone to pick you up from the hospital - no driving while on pain medication! Also you'll need to be careful with your incisions. Hope you can find a good friend or family member to drive.

I'm now 8 weeks out and doing well. Spent Easter with my son and daughter-in-law in Baltimore. First time going out to eat - we went out 3 times. Went to their favorite sushi restaurant - not allowed rice yet so I ordered sashimi - ordered 3 slices of salmon and 3 white tuna - yummy! Also now know I can eat a little KFC grilled chicken; or a small piece of a burger (meat only). Not allowed raw veggies yet but have had apple slices. Can't wait to have a salad - who thought I'd miss my fruit and veggies so much!

I am waking up and just getting my next dose of pain pills, yay! The ones I am already on for my neck. I've had 8 oz of apple juice and Water, just took a walk down the hall and am now going to hopefully go to sleep for the night. Thank you all for the prayers. They worked!

It is so refreshing and inspiring to hear about all of our challenges and accomplishments! I'm waiting to hear from ReaRaes to see how her surgery went. Princess Erin, I can't believe you are going to run a race! That is amazing. I'm glad that Kimr is getting her boot off! Clairec and Zom, I'm really missing carbonization too. I tried a diet cherry limeaid from Sonic. It was really refreshing and sat well but that is the only time in 12 weeks I've strayed to carbonization. It sounds like all of you are doing fantastic and it is good to share our stories. I adore you all.

It went great Carol. I am up sitting in the chair now. I've taken three walks so far today and one last night and basically have no pain. I took oxycodone only once yesterday shortly after I came back up from recovery. Haven't taken it again. If I lived clser to the hospital they probably would let me go today. I just got my first B12 injection andlearned how to do it so I can do it again every month. I have very slight gas pain. Occasionally, drinking my juice and gatorade. Yay, I get to brush my teeth now. Then I get to put my pjs on instead of the dumb gown. My nurse is laughing that I am too independent. She told my roommate she didn't think I'd had surgery cause I am moving too well. Have slept comfortably on both sides and my back. But the most amazing thing for me is that my excruciating knee pain that I have had for the last three weeks is completely gone.

ReaRaes, this is fabulous news! You are doing wonderful and even in your own PJ's and have been walking which is tremendous and out of pain which is wonderful. CONGRATULATIONS on a fabulous. successful surgery. I wasn't able to sleep on both sides, had pain and wore the stupid hospital gown until I checked out. It sounds like you are on your way to a successful weight loss journey.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
