February 2014 post op losers

Recommended Posts

Dreaming,

You have probably left by now because your posts have been overnight here. I think we all felt the way that you do at some point. I felt so desperately sad and had a huge feeling of foreboding throughout the weeks beforehand. I couldn't tell in the end what I was worried about, but really I think it was the food/fluids issues afterwards, rather than the op itself. My op, and the recovery from it, went so well. However the eating and drinking thing is still a work in progress but there are minor successes every day. So now I do feel better than I did beforehand on an ongoing basis. Part of that is knowing that I have made the decision and I have done it. If you are still around I think it is normal to feel really anxious, and in many ways that is much more realistic than feeling that it is just wonderful to get to this point. I know a lot of people feel that way too, having struggled so hard to get the surgery agreed, however it is a big change and I think maybe you are just preparing yourself for that. The first few weeks are not a breeze as you will have been reading here, but it is not terrible either. People seem to turn the corner once they can have more variety.

I really hope you are ok Dreaming and we will see you here after the op as quickly as possible. We are all here for you.

Take care

Claire x

Thanks Clare,

I am on my way now. I sincerely appreciate your kind words and understanding. As I kissed my babies before I left they were crying and then texting me and my baby even said "don't leave me". My heart is so sad.

I am scared about learning to eat again and the eating and drinking thing in general. I am just having faith that it will all work itself

Out in a few months and I will feel normal again.

Thanks for the thoughts and I will update when I can.

:) dreamingBIG!!!

Thinking of you Dreamingbig, hope all goes well. All the things I was most worried about have so far not really materialised, although the experience hasn't really been how I imagined at all. You'll see your babies soon, and there is a whole new way of life out there soon to come

I had something crazy happen to me yesterday!

Way before surgery I bought me a pair of running shoes to wear while walking on the treadmill. Well I went back to Walmart yesterday and they had a bunch of shoes on sale so I thought I should get another pair exactly like that ones I have. I tried them on, same brand style size and everything were just a different color and they were to big!

I wore an 11 and I tried on 10 and still to big. I can no fit in a size 9! What?! I didn't think that was even possible. How did my feet shrink. Lol, I can tell though in most my slip on shoes that they come off and on way to easily.

My surgeon was Dr. William Graber. He has practices in both Syracuse and Utica. I had my surgery at St. Joseph's Hospital in Syracuse. It was amazing. Awesome nurses and accommodations.

Hi,

Welcome to Jessy, now nice to see you on here. I had my bypass a day after you, on the 11th Feb.

Dreamingbig, sooo glad to hear from you, i do hope you are feeling not too bad today and that the pain is getting a little better. Looking forward to more of your updates when you feel a little better.

Zom, I have heard that about shoe size. We don't want to be replacing all our shoes when other clothes buying is so important. However shoes are nice too.

Take care all of you

Claire

I am home!! The pain is much better and I'm only taking Tylenol to control it. The muscles spasms in my back are pretty yucky. I think i was so afraid if hurting my pouch I overused my back muscles getting in And out if bed. So far so good at keeping down my liquids by I've only had Water and diluted cranberry juice...I will "try" the 2 oz if protien tomorrow.

It's been a pretty rough weekend for me. On Saturday morning (early like 1 am) I got a phone call from my dad. My papa passed away. My papa and I were very close. I do have to be thankful to The Lord that I was still pretty heavily medicated as it kept me from getting too upset and breaking into hysterical crying fits. My papa was the BEST and I know he is healthy now. He has had diabetes (well controlled) for years, high Bp, and was in congestive heart failure. He was 87 years old. My grandma is still living but she was with him as he passed.

I am ready for my body to start healing. Lots of pills, Vitamins and of course lovanex shots which I learned to give myself...Urgh.

Now to figure out this new pouch and how to keep it healthy! I have to say no hunger the 1st 2 days but...I'm pretty hungry today and thinking about food. I can feel and get my stomach grumbling. Lol. But..it's not bad like it used to be.

Thanks everyone who kept an eye on me and Pete's for me :) I am thankful to have you all!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
