Metamucil to hell and back

Recommended Posts

If anyone tries the Metamucil bars to add more Fiber to your diet I will tell you right now. If you don't eat them in small bites and drink a lot of Water behind them you will be in Metamucil hell and back. I seriously had them stuck for at least 30 minutes. Here I am trying to be good and have a diet rich in fiber oh hell I don't care about getting fiber in now. I think the rest will sit in my cabinet for 30 years before I try that feat again. Oh and don't try to eat shredded wheat either because then you will be in wheat hell for sure. I love so much sliming on things that make you feel like a razor blade is coming back up in your throat. Hope you all got a good vision and a laugh. Yeah sometimes even after four years I screw up big time. Lesson learned. Hell no to the fiber.

Oh yah! I do not like metamucil! It gets chunky, I have Benefiber, which is easily disolved in Water, or whatever. I don't use fiber anymore, I now, only use magnesium citrate capsules of rhelp with BM. Best wishes, Karen..aka.kll724

Karen - I just picked up some Benefiber yesterday. The jar says two teaspoons three times a day. Do you take it as prescribed, or does it work well on less than three times per day?

I pretty much used it like it said. I don't use it anymore, as now I get better results from my magnesium citrate. But, if you need to add fiber to you rdiet, I would just use 2 teaspoons 1x a day. 3x is a little much! Karen..aka.kll724

Thanks, Karen. I need whatever is going to work best in the bathroom! Do you have better results with magnesium? I have a bottle in the cabinet, but the tablets are huge (from pre-band).

I use capsules, which can be opened and powered into your mouth if you are afraid they might get stuck. I no longer have toliet problems since using the magnesium. In fact, if you use a little too much, will help clean you out!! Karen..aka.kll724

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
