dizzy spells? help!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, a lil concerned. I'm almost 9 months post sleeve and I've been getting very dizzy almost regularly it seems. I have low blood pressure, usually around 85/56 ish and it seems like nowadays I'm a total wreck the day after a workout. I had to leave work the other day because I was so out of sorts (cold, anxious, blurry vision..etc) it was scary.

I've been drinking plenty of Water, and just recently tried adding gatorade ( which have me a horrible headache). Any ideas, or similar problems?

I'm getting tests done with my Dr, who says my body is changing and these problems may be related to bariatric surgery.

Has anyone had any experience with any of this? Your input is appreciated! :)

Sounds like you have figured out it is low blood pressure. Pretty common from what I see here. My husband and I have both come off 1 of our BP meds and his BP is running high and low since surgery. He passed out cold in the shower, broke 6 tiles and really hurt himself. I don't know if I would work out a lot right now if I were you, until you get the okay. If you pass out you could severely injure yourself. Err on the side of caution. Good luck!

Thanks linda,

You're right. I was going to go hard at the gym again tonight. But I think it can wait.

At least I know I'm not crazy. I don't have a lot of friends who have had bariatric surgery and I don't belong to any support groups or anything. I feel sure this is somehow sleeve related but everyone acts like I'm being dramatic.

Thanks for listening, hope everything balances soon for your husband! :)

This forum is the best thing going for all of us. The FB chatter is just that, chatter. We are real people with real issues, going through a wonderful new phase of our lives, but a little scary! This is your support group so use it to the max!!!! Hubby is doing well. Just be careful - when you feel lightheaded, sit! Don't shower! LOL. Good night and good luck, this can be fixed, Linda

I had gastric bypass surgery. I almost passed out while driving. I had blurred vision and was really weak. My Iron, Vitamin B12 and Vitamin D levels were all critically low. Make sure you are taking your Vitamins. They increased my vitamins...I'm still not 100% were I need to be but I'm definitely a lot better and able to function. I do blood work about every 3 months to check my levels.

Linda, won't shower when I'm feeling faint lol

Mlrodd, good looking out. Im pretty religious with my multi but I admit I slack on the others from time to time, because I'm forgetful and busy.

Appreciate your input so much ladies!

Keep up the good work, much love!

you may consider adding a little sodium to your diet too in order to slightly elevate your BP. Get you fluids in and maybe try to have a bullion or something daily to help maintain your BP while your Dr is working on helping you to stabilize this. Good luck.

I've been going having the exact same symptoms. My insurance changed and my doctor simply won't see me because of it, so I rely heavily on what I read here and whatever I can find in articles and videos on the web. I figured it is as B12 deficiency because I ran out about 5 weeks ago and have been having the symptoms for about 3. It shipped today and hopefully it will be here within the week. I've also started taking perinatal...I just have a feeling...but it's definitely something going on

I am having the same issue. Had my blood work done and everything was fine. My blood pressure is normal. I drink plenty of Water. I am trying to get more calories in to see if that helps.

So reassuring to know I'm not crazy. I ran out of Calcium and d. Maybe that is it?

Dr also suggested liberal salt in my diet and to work or with a gatorade instead of Water, to take it easy with the gym until I know what's going on.

All my labs were fine, sodium electrolytes on the low end though. Sending me to cardiology in another week for tests just in case but ekg was fine.

Weird.

Let me know how this turns out for you please. Wondering if I'm not eating enough? Omg I feel so lost, just want to find the right balance so I can get back to normal. Thanks for the input, hope you even out as well:)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
