Malnourished

Recommended Posts

I have had some major issues since I had my sleeve done on January 10th in Tijuana. I ended up with a large blood clot in the vessel to my liver. I also had to have a foot of my small intestines removed. Having both of these surgeries in less than 2 weeks has left me weak and malnourished. I need some help with the easiest to digest protien that will be easy on my stomach. I fell and popped out all of my staples so I have a wound vac on. I have to admit I have been really down, I didn't think I could take one more minute of pain. Anyone have any advice for food choices and a little motivation?

Thanks,

NisceeB

Oh no, I am so sorry you are suffering like this. I have tolerated Premier Protein from day 2 post op. Have you tried that? It is ready to drink and has 30g of Protein per 11 oz. serving.

I am so sorry that you are having a difficult time of it...It is going to take some time for you to get your strength back and your body back in condition. Try the shakes mentioned above...Others probably have some good ideas.

I had a vac for 10 months. Annoying little machine isn't it.....hoping for a quick recovery for you hun!

When I was at my worst in the 5 month stay at the hospital because of complications from my surgery. A very smart nurse said to me...how do you climb a mountain... Being in so much pain and not really listening I said I don't know. And she said....One step at a time.

That is how you have to deal with it all too. One situation at a time. Be good to yourself and work toward getting better by keeping positive as much as possible okay...It is very important that you see this as temporary and not a looonnnnnng haul...K

I am no expert on getting int he Protein, but find what you like and add Protein Powder to it. sprinkle it in your eggs or cottage cheese or greek yogart. 5 oz of greek yogart is 12 mg Protein, so with some powder in it like you could boost it up nicely without having to eat more. I will say one thing with certainty. I ran wound centers and have put 100's of vacs on people. It is the best treatment you could be doing for fast healing. I know the dressing changes are not fun, but thank God only 3 times a week!. sorry for your complications. God speed!

Thank you very much, I have a few protein supplements I am going to try. I think when I am stronger I will be able to heal much faster.

Sometimes you forget about one step at a time. I can't imagine a 5 month stay at the hospital, that must have been horrible.

Thank you for taking time out of your day and responding, it means a lot to know I am not alone.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
