4yrs and gaining

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! New to the site. I had my RNY 4 yrs ago, lost 100# and within the past couple months have gained 10#. Anyone have ideas on how to jump start my metabolism again? I admit I've been stress eating and need some help getting back on the "road".

Hi, Debbie. You and I have a lot in common! I had RNY surgery 10/2009 and for the first time have gained 11 pounds. My hubby and I started at the YMCA but I am still a stress eater. Have you increased your exercise or lowered your calorie intake? I am pulling for us both to succeed at this. Katie

I'm not an exerciser and really have never been but I started journaling again with my fitness pal. Hoping that will help.

I've been logging in MFP for over two years and would be lost without it. Perhaps the most important thing is to find the calorie goal that works best for you to meet your weight loss goal. MFP applies a "one size fits all" formula to determine your calorie goal based on your weight loss goal - e.g. lose half a pound a week or a pound or whatever. The key is to use that as a starting point for a week and see what happens with your weight. If you lose the weight you're looking for, great! If not, adjust the goal up or down 100-200 calories and try it again for a week. That process allows you to fine tune MFP for your particular goals and lifestyle. One of the most powerful tools you can have in your arsenal.

Congratulations on your weight loss and welcome to the forum. This is a special place with lots of great folks!

Thanks Dave. I haven't tried MFP yet but after I get over my current stomach "bug", I will.

Wow Kaitie, we are alike! I came down with a stomach bug yesterday. Dave, the journalizing has helped. I set it for one pound a week so we'll see what happens. Thanks for the support.

I had my surgery 3 years ago and also found that I had gained 10#. I started using MFP and am down 5 of those lbs. I had lost track of portion sizes and what I should be eating. Tracking every little morsel that goes into my mouth has truly helped me be aware of portion sizes again. Good luck!

The MFP seems a little confusing but going to try to put it to use. I gotta do something to get this 30lbs off

One tip for MyFitnessPal.com, go onto the actual website to set it up, not the app. I use the app all the time for tracking, but there are things you can do on the actual website that you can't do on the app. It's much easier to use. I am a HUGE believer in this tool. It has been a vital part of my success.

I've gained about 10 pounds from a med I've had to take and I just decided to read up on what I'm 'supposed' to be eating as an RNY patient, since I just pretty much eat what I feel like, when I feel like it.

I've decided to go high protein/low carb and fat and I just eat boneless/skinless chicken breasts cooked with sliced bell peppers and onions in smaller amounts (about 3/4 cup) several times a day. In 2 days, I'm down 3 pounds!

I've been looking up more bariatric recipes too and I'm going to stay away from Pasta, bread, and anything high fat. I've never really been able to handle breaded/fried foods since my surgery, so those won't be a problem, it's just that when you're trying to find something quick to eat, it's HARD to find healthy too...or just something that I actually WANT.

I found using this simple app is well worth it. I started loosing weight after gaining it back, but with thus app I can go back through the week or month and learn where I slipped up. This app is helping me stay on track more than I believed it would. But it only helps if you are completely honest when you fill it out.

I would suggest you give it a try.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
