band size who decides

Recommended Posts

am still preop and increasingly confused about how many band sizes/makers there are? my surgeon uses the INAMED band but won't eleborate on which band he will use in me, told me he won't know which size band I will require until he's "in there". Is this normal???? do I have a choice in the band size and what is the latest greatest info. on the subject, anyone know? is bigger really better??? help ? thanks.

The doctor decides by the size of your stomach. Sorry, but you get no voice on this one ;)

What your surgeon told you is spot on. All of our organs are different sizes and even slightly different shapes. Since our sizes vary so much, there is no "one size fits all" approach, and the surgeon can't know until he gets inside what size band to use. He can guess what he will use, but can't know. Case in point - my surgeon supposed he would use a 10cc band, but I ended up with the 4cc.

Since you know he uses Inamed, there are three possibilities, listed below. The first measurement is cm which is the band's length, and the second is cc which is its Fluid capacity.

9.75cm - 4cc

10cm - 4cc

11cm - 10cc

Jack, if you don't mind me asking what is the difference in those band sizes. I am with a 10cc band and I have lost really slow. Mine holds 4.2 cc and I'm at 3cc right now. It took me 5 fills to feel restriction.

I thought when you had a 10cc band, it holds 10ccs.. I have a 10cc band and just finally had 8ccs.. now I am losing and restricted..

am I missing something?

A 10cc band does hold 10ccs. Well, let's say it's designed to hold 10ccs. And many people don't get restriction until they're filled to 8ccs or more. I know people who have to be 9+ before they feel anything.

Maybe you're confusing cc with cm?

Ok.. I was going by the post earlier where she said she had a 10 cc band and it only holds 4.5ccs.. I was confused with what she was saying..

Not hard to do to me being blonde and all. :P

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
