Sleeping on your belly

Recommended Posts

I'm still pre-op but I'm definitely a stomach sleeper. How long after the surgery will this be possible again?

I was comfortable in about a week as long as I didn't accidentally twist in my sleep. You'll have no problem being a stomach sleeper again in the near future! :)

Depends on if your doc does a tethering stitch. I couldn't sleep on my sides or stomach for 4 1/2 weeks til that stitch popped. Way too painful.

It also took me about a week before I was comfortable laying on my stomach. Hang in there after the surgery, hopefully it won't be too long for you!

I wonder if you could use blankets around your tummy to pad it from moving around. Like making a little tummy nest heehee. I'm new to this as well and was wondering the same exact things lol! Good luck and congrats to your success.

I am a stomach sleeper and it took about 3 weeks to comfortably sleep on my stomach. I would wake up because I had gotten on my stomach during sleep and it hurt. I could sleep on my sides immediately.

I'm a stomach and side sleeper. I probably would have been 'comfortable' being on my stomach after about a week. However, the incision just above my belly button has been slow to heal, (not the outside skin, but my muscle and fat tissues mending together). When I would twist, as if to turn over on my side, I would wake up in pain, almost like a tearing sensation. No bueno, lol.

So, I used a pillow and put it on my left side under the covers. I made a point to ensure my left side/back was ever so slightly on it thus preventing me from turning over that direction. I don't roll over via my right side, dunno why, but if I did I would've put a pillow there too.

Oddly enough, spending the last 2 weeks sleeping on my back have drilled it into me. The last couple of days no pillow, but I'm not rolling over at night.

I am definitely a stomach sleeper as well and haven't been able to sleep on my stomach yet. I'm a week out. However, I can side sleep if I put a pillow to kind of brace my tummy. Last night was the first night I didn't wake up in pain from moving in my sleep. Yay! I would bet in another week or two I can go back to stomach sleeping.

I was in the hospital sleeping on my stomach.. by the middle of the night I had found my way on my stomach... I also had my incisions glued.

I have been wondering the same thing!! I am a tummy sleeper and can not sleep on my belly yet. I am 13 days post-op and as long as I have some pain meds/muscle relaxer before bed I can sleep on my side. I'll take it because I hate sleeping on my back!!

I can't wait to sleep on my tummy again!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
