Hello, I am Jenny Velasquez. I am going for the sleeve.

I have been going to my local weightloss center.

santara Comprehensive Weightloss Center for more than 5 months now.

My insurance requires 6 diet visits. I am now on my 5th visit.

Information is going great. I am studying the notebook they gave me and I already attended a seminar, 2 support groups there,

Since I started at the center, I lost about 10 pounds already on my own, but it's slow.

I am happy to have found this forum because on my journey I will need lots of support and advice.

I am now at a weight of 260 pounds now.

Hi Jenny I had my sleeve done 7/29/13, it was the best thing that I've ever done for my self. Just remember that it is a tool for us to use, we have to make good choices in what we put in our bodies. It is not a instant fix, we have to work at it. Remember to drink Water, green tea, crystal light. Also take your Vitamins every day, when they do your sleeve they pump you full of gases to be able to be able to do the surgery, when you are awake start walking around your room then move out into the hall and walk, walk ,walk this will help the gas to dissipate, if you don't you may feel like your having a heart attack from the gas build up. I don't own a set of scales and I have not focused on whether or not I was losing or gaining, I weighed 266 before I started my pre open diet, on day of surgery I weighed 242, today I weigh 188.4 @ 7 months. I recommend putting your scales away that way you just have to concentrate on what you are eating and drinking, believe me you will know you are loosing weight by the way your clothes are fitting.I have read so many different post about people who are upset because they are either in a stall gained, or only lost one or two lbs. in a month, with out scales I never was worried about those things and I think it's the way to go, every time I went for a check up I had lost weight. But to each his/ her own. Best of luck Louise

Welcome Jenny, I too am new to this forum, I am having my VSG on 02/27/2014 (18 DAYS) :D ...I have my pre op and final consult with my surgeon on the 18th of this month. I had to do 5 lifestyle classes, EKG, Chest X-Ray, Psychological evaluation, nutrition consult and blood work prior to approval. I was submitted to insurance 12/16/2013 and received approval 12/19/2013! I have started taking necessary steps in order to assure my preparedness for my upcoming surgery. I have started to train myself to eat; Yoplait Greek 100 yogurt 12g of Protein, Isopure liquid Protein 40g Protein and Premier Protein shakes 30g protein...I have the organic low sodium Vegetable & chicken broths, sugar free Jell-O, popsicles & puddings, 2 oz cups, shakes, immersion blender, organic pureed baby foods(Earths Best) measuring cups, spoons, smaller portioned plates, 3oz bowls with lids for storing. Now I am just passing the days away, I do find that my mind is trying to play tricks on me and tell me that I need to eat even when I am not hungry. This was not an issue until last week, I was not required to do a liquid diet phase prior to surgery(except for the day before) BUT I am going to start one on Monday so that I will understand the dedication that it will take once I have surgery. Good luck to you and I will see you on the losers bench.

I agree with you Gman. Wish I had taken the time to come up with a more creative moniker. Oh well, this one works.

Hi Jenny and welcome. Come in and make yourself at home. Most everyone here is friendly and supportive. You will occasionally come across a curmudgeon but they are far and few between. I have learned so much from this forum and I credit it for my preparation and readiness for my surgery. BTW, I am having my surgery Monday the 10th. (Tomorrow) I am so excited and feel like all of these people will be supportive and provide us the answers we need.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
