Anyone else being sleeved in the next couple of months?

Recommended Posts

Yes!

List of things I'm scared of:

Scared of having surgery

Scared of *not* having surgery and getting more obese

Scared I won't lose weight

Scared that if I do lose some weight then I'll regain and it will all have been for nothing.

I agree... question.a, questions, questions, going round my head.

Good luck all you March Sleevers, mine is booked for April 11th. The questions are constantly going round in my head which usually end up with, is the restriction going to be enough? I'm so scared I'm going to over eat as I have such a bad relationship with sugary foods and always have had. Does anyone else think similar thoughts? X

I could have written this post Peachy!:))

I am also very scared that somehow my sleeved stomach will end up being big and I will still be hungry and able to eat a lot! I am more scared of that then complications. And I have a very bad relationship with carbs too, and I will have to fight myself to stay away from them after surgery.

I am sceduled April 14th! Not long now and I'm getting more and more nervous by the minute!

I was a carb monster, I would of rather of sat with a bowl full of Pasta or rice or a sandwhich than eat anything else. The pre op diet cured the worse of that in me thankfully, I knew I had to stick to it and cut down the amount I ate and had no one to blame but myself if I didn't.
I had my operation on monday, today was the first time I smelled food and actually thought ok I could eat that and it was my husband eating toast, which obviously I was never going to even attempt to eat but did have me thinking wow I really really want bread. Its not going to cure you of wanting carbs but it will help you change the way you think about foods.

Green eyed girl, thank god it's not just me. I keep changing my mind, to bypass then back to sleeve. I don't remember being this neurotic 10 years ago when I decided to have the band.

Lots of luck for the 14 th, if you need a chat then please keep in touch. I know exactly why you are more concerned with the sleeve not being restrictive enough, I too have no concerns with complications, been there done that but the nonsence going round in my head is destructive and I just need to be getting on with it.

Just agreed my date today - 10 April so only a couple of weeks to go and so I must start the preop diet in a couple of days. My surgeon has offered me sleeve or bypass. Hadn't really considered bypass before and don't know whether I should now. I do have a sweet tooth and can binge on sweet things. I don't know if the surgeon suggested it for that reason. I do know he favours the bypass, though has done many sleeves to and says it is my choice and that he won't make it for me.

I so identify with the previous post listing the things I'm scared off and now I have to choose bypass or sleeve too. Aarrghh!

I was offered the choice but went with the sleeve simply for the speed of recovery compared to the bypass.
I was told if the sleeve doesnt work properly I can always go to a bypass at a later date but so far I am happy enough with it, I am loosing weight slowly but steadily.
With either you will not want to binge on sweet things, I had a tiny bit of sweetened fresh orange juice the other day and it went straight through me. I cant have sweet foods or drinks.< /p>

OMG, I don't know what I'm having either. I thought I wanted the bypass, as my daughter has done so very well with that, saw the surgeon, and as I have a hernia and struggle with Vitamin D levels, he may want to do the sleeve. So, I have got used to the idea, of having a sleeve. However, he has said that he won't know what he is doing until the op (results of bloods), and will he, or not, be repairing my hernia (how it is positioned), or will I have to wait until I've lost some weight? Well, at first that sent me into a spin, but chatting on here, I soon realised that it is not so important, what IS important, is that I have a procedure to start me on the road to recovery. So, what if I had the choice now???? Well, I guess it might be the sleeve, simply for the reduced recovery time...... Simply because of my work commitments.

I have told my parents my hubby and my best friend, that's it! I'll probably happily explain it to people in a year if I'm on a winning journey but I don't want people waiting for me to fail and get to say 'I told you so' if they don't agree with wls!

I know exactly what you mean and have never told anyone outside of home for that reason, I have judged myself for long enough without anyone else judging me or waiting for me to fail.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
