Anyone else being sleeved in the next couple of months?

Recommended Posts

I am due to have my sleeve at the start of march, I begin my pre op diet on the 17th february. I am nervous but more excited about the help the sleeve will give me to finally get this extra weight gone for good. No doubt I will have dozens of extra questions as the time gets nearer.
Is there anyone else who is due to undergo surgery in the very near future?

My date is March 24. So excited! Trying to get as prepared as I can, doing lots of reading, etc.

Where are you having your surgery done jeanne? I can't wait to begin my new life after struggling for so long. I too have been doing a power of reading. Good luck with your operation.

I live near Boston, Massachusetts. My surgeon is near by. How about you? What country are you in?

I'm in the middle of reading this blog right now. She's a member here and she documents her progress over a year and a half. It's really interesting so far.

Willow13, good luck when your date comes!

I'm in Scotland too so if you want any help or advice, either before or after surgery, send me a pm. Being sleeved is the best thing I have ever done for myself, hope it works out for you :-)

I'm due surgery hopefully the start of March, will get the date confirmed at my next appointment.

I'm feeling pretty ambivalent at the moment and keep wondering if its the right thing to do. I know that really I've tried everything and failed and see this as my last chance if you know what I mean?

Hi CBF, I know exactly what you mean by last chance I do feel like that myself. I spent four year being immobile and comfort eating after an accident., I have tried most things to get rid of the weight with little or no result, I still have limited mobility which does not help and the weight causes more issues so this really is my last chance. I have gone through the am I doing the right thing but now I am feeling more confident in my decision and even though I know its going to be tough I am looking forward to beginning a new chapter in my life and gaining control of my life again.

Hi Willow

I haven't had an accident, but I understand the bit about having less and less mobility, and it's horrible isn't it? And you're so right about the questions you ask yourself. You really do know it is your last chance, but because of all the stuff in the media, and peoples very strong opinions we of course question ourselves and balance everything in our minds. And do you know what I think? It's about time we were a little bit selfish and put ourselves first, for a change. Get rid of the excess weight, get more mobile and have less pain doing it. Good luck to you, not long now......

Best wishes

Hi CBF

So sorry you feeling like this. Did you feel the same with your first appointment with the surgeon? I did. I keep hoping that my second appointment will suddenly be moved forward. And because I'm anxious about the timing I'm not that worried about shall I or not. It's a chance to change our lives, it is drastic, but we need all the support we can get. And to me it is my last chance because if I don't take it then I can't see a way forward and I'm sure I'll regret it. So many people postpone or cancel and then regret it. So think twice if you're thinking of that luv.

Thank you Luckyknickers your so very right, it is about time we put ourselves first for a change and done something to help us never mind anyone else. My biggest hate is the people who think you are over weight because you over eat constantly, they never take into account the reasons behind it and unless they are overweight they do not realise it isnt as simple as cutting back to lose it. If it were that simple non of us would ever require surgery.

I start my pre op diet on monday and even though I know its going to be a huge change I am looking forward to it as mad as it sounds as it means I am another step closer to my surgery date.

Good for you.... So true, you don't get it, unless you got it.

Unless we look after ourselves, we won't be able to look after others, so, its another reason to put ourselves first.

Cant wait for your postings, keep us up to date please. So many of the UK postings are so old

Best of luck to you

I will do, I start my pre-op diet tomorrow, its looking pretty unappetising to say the least.

I've pigged out like a big fat pig today, not on crap food mind you, just huge portions of good stuff, which lets face it is why I'm in this state to start with.

Lets not forget that there is a chat room facility on this site, its at the bottom of the reply to this topic box, all you have to do is click it and go into the room.

I have an appointment next Tuesday so will let you know how it goes..:)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
