Post Op day 6. Scale hasn't moved an ounce.

Recommended Posts

I am not expecting to wake up skinny. I would imagine that consuming less than 900 calories a day (most of which coming from protein) that I would see some weight loss. Could it be all the fluids from surgery? When will I see some progress? My follow up is Tuesday.

The same thing happened to me. I did not lose anything the first week even though I had lost 15 pounds the two weeks before the surgery on Optifast. The NUT said that it is common because of all the fluids they give you and your body is stunned by the surgery. Have faith, the loss will begin soon. I now lose 2 pounds per week.

thank you thank you. That is what I figured. Every time I get up off the couch I say to my husband "am I skinny yet?" LOL

6 days post-op, you still probably have a lot of edema and swelling. I'm sure your surgical team will tell you this as well. And are you having regular BM's (TMI I know)? I'd guess not, so that contributes to it as well. I know it's hard to avoid the scale now because we expect drastic change but some folks take a little longer to heal than others. Willing to bet after another week or so you'll notice a big difference on the scale. For now, take care and rest up. Congrats on a successful surgery!

Thanks! Please BM isn't a dirty word to me.. .I am a nurse. I cleaned enough of others BM's in my career that it doesn't phase me. I had a gay male nurse put in my Foley cath... again.... no shame in my game. Thanks so much. I probably do have a lot of edema still and yes... yesterday I kept running to the BR... colace must be working ;)

Looking back at my weight tracker, on my day 6 post op, I weighed exactly the same as the day I went in for surgery.

Over the next two days, 3 pounds came off. Another week later, and I'm another 7.5 down. - Granted I'm male, so YMMV. :)

Aha - my mother is an RN! I'm 8 months out and I still take colace every single day. I really should eat more Fiber but it's hard to balance when you've got strict caloric goals. As I recall for me, month one I didn't lose all that much. Month 2 I dropped 25 lbs. So never fear, the scale will move when you're all healed up! :D

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
