My daughter had the Roux en y surgery years ago,, somewhere between 8-10 years ago. She lost around 150lbs.

BUT she has had nothing but complications:

1.Stoma closing off 4-5 times, causing profound vomiting and pain and requiring them to go in and stretch it.

2.The last time they stretched her, they ruptured her stomach anf had to did surgical repair.

3. She has had hernia surgery several times.

4. She got a pacemaker at the age of 27. I feel it is solely related to vegas nerve damage from the roux en y.

5. She has seizures, that are not controlled, even with medication. and when she has a seizure, she is a danger to herself with impaired judgement for at least 48 hours while her brain recovers. She doesn't remember it, but the rest of us go through hell trying to keep her self

She has stated over and over that if she had known this was going to happen, she would have never had this surgery.

Has anyone here gone through this?

You might try the 'Gastric Bypass Complications support Group'. I don't know if anyone's story is similar or not. Good luck. I can't imagine how hard it must be to watch your child suffer.

Sorry to hear this. I have never heard of such complications. Who was her surgeon?

How is she doing now? I hope she improves more with time.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
