Day 9 post op new lump/bruise

Recommended Posts

The initial huge bruise has mostly gone away. Just a little while ago, I discovered a painful new bruise with a lump, under some stitches above my belly button. I'm curious if anyone else has experienced this? I don't think it's enough to call the doctor on call, and will wait until Monday morning and call the nurses, if it's still bothering me. I just think it's weird to get a new bruise, where the old bruise was, a week later.

Yes....it's normal unless the sight is either red, swollen or hot to the touch. If it is it may be an infection. You should be fine.????

That's what I was worried about, that it might be an infection. All of my incision areas are red and raised, but that's normal for me, because I have very sensitive skin, and I'm really pale. I feel okay. I'm not abnormally warm, and don't have a fever. I'll wait and see how it is tomorrow.

Have you found the incision where the port is?

I think it's on my left side. That's where the nurse said it was going before the surgery. I have two tiny incisions there, but I can't feel anything. I have been getting random pains on my left side, and in the ribs on my left side. I think my pants are irritating the large incision in the center. I have four incisions. Two small ones at the port area, one small one at the top of my stomach, and a large one above my belly button. That's the one that has the new bruise directly below it. I'm really wondering what's going on.

the large one generally is where the port is located. i have had a fresh bruise on another site since surgery. and i am 8 months out from surgery. my blood work is okay so none of my doctors are worried about it.you are already looking for fever, redness, increase swelling or drainage. but still call your doctor. a lot of surgeons just give antibiotics because of so many surgery induced infections. keep an eye on it. and perhaps wear something that won't hit that area with a waist band. good luck

My large incision is in the center above my belly button. It's all under the skin, no drainage or anything. It is a bit warm to touch. I think I'll call the on call Dr. tomorrow just to be safe. It's just so bizarre. Up until now I thought I was healing well.

So, I spoke to the doctor on call earlier today. He said it could be blood from the surgery that's just making its way up to the skin. He said I should still come in to the clinic tomorrow and let the nurses look at it. If it was an infection I'd have a fever and feel crappy, which I don't. It really feels like the initial bruise I had last week. It sort of burns and is itchy, too. Delayed bruising...you learn something new every day.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
