LAPBAND TO SLEEVE TO RNY

Recommended Posts

THANKS to everyone who was supportive on this website. I thought I was alone until I found a few people that had undergone 3 surgeries. When my doctor told me that there were complications with the sleeve due to the severe scar tissue from the LapBand, I left his office in tears. He told me, my only choice was to convert to RNY. My family was supportive and the staff at the doctor stated I have to consider my quality of life.

One and a half months later, I had surgery on Wednesday, February 5th 2014. I am still in pain and the gas in my stomach is severe. I am walking and moving around as much as I can. I have to remain on Stage one until I see my doctor next week. He said that HE will have to tailor my eating to support the RNY because of the scar tissue. I am praying and am full of hope that this time, I have NO complications. I pray that I am able to lose the weight and my body is satisfied this time....I have no other choices. I wanted to share my story because there were not many people on this website that could give me any information about having the LAPband to sleeve to RNY.

Praying for your recovery, and for this to work for you. Thankfully you have a surgeon that will do what needs to be done to help you be successful. Take each day one at a time, and know you are not alone, we will keep in touch and pray for you. I am going to revise from the band to RNY, hopefully soon if my insurance will approve. keep us posted.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
