Recommended Posts

I have started my liquid diet and today is day 5 of my 2 week phase and I was wondering if its okay to have Pickle Juice not a lot maybe just a cup. For some reason I am wanting pickle juice.

I like Pickle Juice too. You know you are going to read from each poster to CALL YOUR DOCTOR,

There are health benefits to drinking pickle juice and it appears to be a "clear liquid." But, it can affect your blood pressure and kidney function (according to what I just googled---- LOL).

I would certainly check and be sure with your doctor first - but I think the biggest issue would be the sodium count. A LITTLE BIT (a tablespoon or two) shouldn't hurt - at least, I wouldn't think it would!

If all else fails, drink some, swish it around for the taste and spit it out without swallowing. It sounds silly, but may help the craving pass.

Thanks for all the responses I ended up just having a tablespoon and that fixed the craving

My surgeon didn't require me to do a liquid diet prior to surgery nor was it ever discussed in the pre-surgery nutrition classes. I've seen several posts on these boards regarding pre-surgery liquid diet. Is this the norm. What is the benefit of it? Just curious.

Some surgeons don't and instead do a low-cal diet with fasting prior to surgery. For the ones that DO require liquids, however, it's done primarily to shrink the liver and pancreas before surgery to reach the stomach easier.

I was on a pre op liquid diet for 6 weeks, they told me it was so my liver would shrink so he could get to my stomach easier. Then after surgery I was on liquid diet for 4 more weeks. I was wanting real food so badly. That on my next check up I ate a few bites of scrambled eggs and orange juice and oh boy was I sick, they came back up and I am now 7 mos out and I still can't eat them.lol

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
