It looks like I will be having my surgery on the 18th if my insurance authorization comes through in time. Obviously, I won't be eating solids for a while, but I've been thinking ahead of time about food that I can take with me when I'm away from home. I hear a lot of talk about Jerky, which I really enjoy eating, but IMHO isn't it tough on the sleeve since it's so chewy and tough? Wouldn't it be hard for the sleeve to digest? For those of you who eat jerky, how soon after your surgery were you able to eat it? Thanks.

Jerky is a great treat and since you can carry it with you, it is good for those times when you cannot find Protein when you are out and about.

I do not recommend eating it until you are at least 4 months post surgery. You also have to chew the jerky ALOT before swallowing. Some surgeons do not recommend beef until you are 6 months out. I couldn't eat beef until 6 months but found I could eat beef jerky at 4 months (maybe cuz I would chew it "forever" before swallowing to make sure it wouldn't get stuck)

I wasn't allowed Jerky until I was six months out -- until then, I was limited to food I could cut with a fork. Jerky definitely doesn't qualify!

Now I keep ostrich jerky and turkey jerky on hand to pinch-hit for meals when I might not have fresh meat available. I love them!

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
