A mild laxative may give you relief. It is a 50/50 chance that you lose weight the first couple of weeks. Your body has been through a lot and so much crap they put in your body to protect you and Fluid build up and swelling and everything else. pain meds... Relax and get better before you start to agonize about your weight.. You are in the honeymoon period. You are now geared to lose......K

Call your surgeon about what is an acceptable laxative. Mine allowed stool soft era daily, milk of magnesium, and Miralax. Miralax saved my life. It's amazing how some people say liquids in liquids out, I was on liquids 5 weeks and it didn't work that way. If your doc says ok for miralax give it time, took 5 days for it to work for me, but it also removed bloat. Now I take magnesium caps.

Chances are good that you won't lose weight right away. As RJ says there is alot of swelling and Fluid retention and it takes a while for that to go away. I've had two surgeries since having the lapband and both times I gained weight and it took a while for it to come off....but it did and it will for you as well. And yes...call your doctor to ask what to do about the Constipation.< /p>

My surgeon said Milk of Mag. I wanted Miralax, but no dice with him. That's too bad -- Miralax was my best friend for the past few months before surgery. I'm sure I'll be able to use it again if necessary. So far, not necessary. But wow -- those first five days post-op I felt totally backed up. :(

Best of luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
