I am almost 5 days post op and feeling great. Tolerating a full liquid diet. Want some mashed potatoes now! Should I wait for my post op visit on the 11th before I advance my diet any further?

I'm sorry but can I ask How does your stomach feel does it feel different I asked this question because I'm debating between the sleeve Or the lapband And I have a low tolerance to pain :(

I was not sure what surgery to have either. Do as much research as you can. I am getting sleeved Monday. Sounds like they are taking out more bands than they are putting in now.

I had sleeve.... I wouldn't dare get lap band. Stomach feels great. I do not feel like I even had surgery. The worst pain was day after surgery.... you get stomach spasms but meds help a lot. Too many problems with the Lap Bands... slippage, erosion, poor outcomes etc. I never was interested in getting banded.

no prob... when you meet with the surgeon tell him your concerns and ask if he/she is generous with administering local anesthesia during surgery. Make it clear you will need the best pain control post op available to you. I had Tylenol IV x 4 doses with Dilaudid IV push for breakthrough. I was very happy with that. Make sure he/she sends you home with something like Lortab Elixir (good sh#t).

I had the gastric sleeve on Monday . . . . everything went great. I originally was looking into lap band but due to autoimmune disease the drs discouraged it and also told me I made the right decision because they're having lots of "issues" with the LapBand. I think the sleeve is the way to go!

I was sleeved on Feb. 3rd also, can't believe it will be a week already! Day 2 was the worst, nausea and vomiting was bad, but feeling so much better now! I am getting in my fluids no problem, just feeling gassy and bloated, but not in pain.

Sleeved on 2/4 and feeling really good. I have a hematoma above my large incision causing pain but otherwise good.No nausea or vomiting, sipping well. I am not hungry at all! I've been staying with my parents the last few days and they've been eating hoagies cheesesteaks, donoughts, etc and I'm not even interested. I haven't had a bowl movement but am passing gas. I'm down 16 lbs since I started my 3 day pre-diet on 2/1. I'm 5'9' starting weight was 252. This week is Clear liquids for me , so I've been drinking Propel, Water, tea with honey, Jello, and broth. I'm drinking The Original Protein XL shot 28 grams. It's really good. Next week will be full liquids like pudding, yogurt, Protein shakes, etc. I'm really excited!

I'm also a week out tomorrow.

I'm ok, just extremely fatigued. Very much needing calories, nutrition, some Vitamins, and energy. I want real food so much.

Even though I don't see my doctor for a follow up until later next week, it's been just about 7 days so today I decided to try and switch over from my Clear Liquids to full liquids and get a Protein shake into my system. OMG. I was only able to get less than two ounces in, and immediately following I felt pretty damn awful. It almost felt like "dumping" has been described here.

So that is very disconcerting to me. I need nutrition badly. Has anyone else felt this way? The OP of this post moved on to foods so quickly. That is just unbelievable to me. I wish I could!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
