Hi I am new to the site. I am only on day 3 of the liquid diet. My surgery is 2/19/14. I feel tired all the time. Any suggestions? Or will I get used to it after a while? Thanks for the help

It takes a few days for your body to adjust to the liquid diet... but you should be find in a day or two... find ways to relax; you are probably tense with anticipation of your new journey.

I found a nice Decaf tea at night helped...and sometimes tylenol pm... good luck, you can do it! <3

Thank you ladies. I am sure I will feel better. I am really worried about getting through the weekend. At least at work I can keep my mind off of food except for the grumbles my stomach sends up. LOL. Just started to crochet a scarf to keep my hands busy. Good luck with your journeys. Can't wait for mine to begin or should I say stage 2 to begin.

I'm am new to the site also. I have been doin well on the liquid diet and my energy has been great...I'm on day ten and my surgery is on February 12. All that being said. I had a moment last night and had something to eat. Ugh! I hope everything will still be ok for surgery

I wish I could still crochet! That will help you for sure! My arthritis won't let me move the needles well and I get frustrated! I'd like mine in shade of purple please LOL :)

I am on Day 9 and I feel okay; you will get used to it. The low energy is because the Protein Drinks are low-carbs, which provides the energy. This process is good to adjust to the new you following surgery. I am getting through this because I know it is required to shrink my liver. My surgery is 2/13; in addition, I have to have Clear Liquids the day before and travel the day of surgery to Mexico! Now that will be challenging. Good luck on your journey.

My surgery is also on the 19th. While this liquid diet has been really easy, I'm bored of the fruity crap. Haha. And I'm also still really tired on day 3. But I'll power throigh, as the end result is totally worth it.

Hi there! My surgery is scheduled for the 17th, and I am on day 5 of my liquid diet. I have 2 Protein Shakes then a small dinner. Day 2 and 3 were bad. But I am happy to report that I had my son's birthday party yesterday, and managed to eat what I was supposed to with nothing else. It wasn't too bad. I drink a coffee or tea (decaf of course) when I start to get cranky. Makes me feel a little bit better. But I'm honestly not hungry!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
