Pre-Op: Last chance to eat, drink, and be merry?!?!

Recommended Posts

Ok, I've been reading a lot about how the horrendous waiting period surrounding the surgery is a great time to educate yourself, to start a regular exercise routine to better prepare you physically for surgery, to handle emotional eating, to learn to eat mindfully, etc...but I'm going to be really honest with you all: the more I read about how different my life will have to be after surgery, I'm seriously considering taking this first 1 month of my 4-6 month waiting period to truly enjoy all the things I'm going to have to give up. I figure that still gives me 3-5 months to be a "good student"...not to mention the fact that I won't even find out if insurance has approved the procedure until after all the months of waiting, tests, classes, and appointments! Any thoughts? Ok, at the very least did anyone of you do something similar and not live to regret it? :)

I kinda did what you're suggesting and pretty much didn't follow any real diet during my 6 months wait. But to be quite honest, as I see the weight come off now, my determination gets stronger and I find myself actually liking the foods I am limited to. Probably because anything tastes great at this point. But with the lack of hunger and getting full on such small amounts of whatever I eat, I just don't miss all the past fatty food stuff. And some things undergo an unexpected change too. I loved sugarfree popcicles before surgery and in the weeks that followed, but they have become too sweet for me, so I lost my desire for them. It happens. Probably will for other things too later on. Doesn't bother me and I doubt you'll care either. Plenty of good healthy choices out there.

So, back to your topic of pre-op diet..........I doubt it makes any difference. Enjoy.

I had a food funeral and never regretted it at all..I waited 4 years for my surgery date and things were getting tougher and tougher for me....

Just before I started my pre-op I did eat the things I thought I would never eat again. What I did not realize is that I still can eat most things just not the same amount.

When the time comes for you to be a good student and do the best for your health and sleeve. You will! But do take the time to learn better eating habits because it makes it that much easier then learning afterwards. Less withdrawls. And like the previous poster.

Now some of the foods I loved I cannot tolerate. I find some things too hard on my stomach and I am finding sweets really hard to eat now...Never thought that would ever happen to me!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

I had a six month plan also and did a food funeral. I had always wanted to travel for great BBQ, so my wife and I spent a week eating BBQ in Kansas City, St Louis and Memphis. It was a great trip and probably something I will not be able to do now that I am sleeved. I will still eat BBQ, but not 3-4 restaurants a day!!!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
