Sleeping thru the night?

Recommended Posts

I am 5 days post op and I can not sleep thru the night. I wake up every couple of hours with a talking tummy.I dont really feel hungery or anythng. I am no longer having nasuea and dry heaving. Just a talking tummy. Is this normal? did anyone else have trouble sleeping thru the night? My RN at the doctors office said this was normal. It just seems so weird to me.

Thanks,

B~

Are you on something for acid? I am wondering if your tummy is acidic .Mine sounds bubbly when I dont take my antacids on time.

At six weeks out, I am sleeping better than I have for 30 years. I think that is in part due to losing 42 pounds of insulation on the pre-op and post-op parts of my program so far. There are no more hot flashes to wake me up every 15 minutes and I don't wake myself up from snoring. That also helps to keep me out of the kitchen at night, because I am sleeping. I guess that qualifies as another Non scale Victory for you to look forward to. You will be alright...our new tummies gurgle and belch a lot in the beginning, then taper off. Good luck with your recovery.

Initially, I often slept in the recliner in our living room. It was more comfortable to me, for some reason, and if I woke up I could turn on the TV until I felt sleepy again. It took me a few weeks to go back to my bed for good, and I must admit, I sleep really wonderfully now. :)

Thanks everyone. I am sure it will get better soon. I have stopped taking my antacids for now. It was suggested because I have had such nausea. Maybe I will start up again tonight. I have been sleeping in my recliner. That seemed to help keep the talking tummy some what quite.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
