When you start eating solids you will be pleasantly surprised at how little you really can eat!

I think it might be "mind hunger." I think that we all experience it. It's common. I'm preop and on my liquid diet. God, help me. You will get through this!!

I can still remember times before surgery when I would really eat too much. And I mean too much. I knew I shouldn't have eaten that much, but just kept eating. When it finally registered, I felt so bloated and full, it felt like I would pop. So uncomfortable and regretful.

Well imagine my surprise when I reached the soft foods stage and with a measly 3 ounces, I have again felt those same "full to the brim" feelings. Except now it makes me chuckle. Yep......3 little ole ounces and I'm full. And it takes awhile to ease up too. How cool is that.

It'll come, so be careful and measure your food and take it slow. Enjoy your sleeve.

Some of us lose our hunger for a long period. Some of us. I wasn't so lucky. I started having physical hunger on day 10 post op. Was on liquids for 4 weeks, so literally starving. When I started my soft diet, I was surprised at how little I could eat. When I started regular foods, it was even less.

Now that I'm 7 mths post op, I can definitely eat more (which I'm bummed about). I fight for every single lb I'm able to lose. I'm 18 lbs from goal and feel that I'll NEVER get there.

So welcome to the "unlcky group" of those who never really lost their hunger. Ghrelin is made in other places (including the brain and pancreas) and not just in the part of stomach they remove. For those of u who r lucky enuf to lose it, enjoy!!!

Goood luck! Ull find u can't eat much when u start eating actual food. I felt starving all the time while on liquids...

It's refreshing to read about the struggles of others. I'm only 4 weeks out, but the liquids were killing me. I could only have Protein shakes and Water. I couldn't stand anything else, but damn I was HUNGRY! I couldn't do pureed foods, so I was stuck on liquids. Now I'm on soft foods, and I am surprised how little fills me up too. It is great, but I have a feeling I will also be fighting to get off these pounds. My body is going to make me work for it. And working for it I am (gym three days a week). Whoever says this surgery is the easy way out needs to walk a few weeks in our shoes! I went to a staff meeting today, on the table dozens of chocolate chip Cookies. WTH!!! Seriously? I had my hot tea and water...No cookie, don't think I wasn't pissed though  .

If it helps you, I am 18 months out and 3-4 ounces of dense Protein makes me full. Yup- still working. However, anything that is not dense protein I can eat a lot of. It is at these times I wish 3 ounces of oatmeal filled me up. Start now, while you are a young sleever, and learn how to eat the right portion size even when the sleeve does not help you. The power of good habits will help you with hunger related decisions down the road.

I am on soft Proteins and measure three ounces each meal. I do it for habit and to learn the right portion size. I am six weeks out and have not been hungry, I really eat on schedule every 3-4 hours

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
