Surgery is on February 17th!

Recommended Posts

I knew I was approved for a sleeve gastrectomy at the end of last month, but I just got my surgery date today! I'm excited and nervous at the same time. I have 3 kids, ages 8, 5 and 2. The surgery is an overnight stay. But how will I feel the following days (I'm a SAHM)? I've just started my Liver Shrinking diet. Not too bad for day 1. One of my other concerns is that my blood pressure was high at my last appointment. Not too sure if it was nerves or what, but I'm concerned about it. I'm normally not high, so will this affect my surgery? I've been reading everyone's tips and experiences, and was wondering what the best advice you can give me.

Congrats! I anticipate my date in early March. Being you have small kids it would be in your best interest to be proactive to plan your shakes and small meals. Good luck to you!

Hi no the high blood pressure reading should not affect surgery otherwise they would have wrote a script for that. Put it this way I'm a diabetic and my blood sugar was high the morning of my surgery but they stll did the sleeve that day.

Thanks guys! I already am prepared for the two weeks post surgery. Have all my shakes, broths and whatnot. So hoo dull there will be no issues regarding that. As far as the blood pressure, guess time will tell. I'm hoping with the reduction of food, especially salt and caffeine will help by then.

Hi bobbi. I just got sleeved on Tuesday. I work full time and have two kids 7 and 3. I was really nervous about having surgery so much that I wrote letters. I'd plan on someone taking care of the kids for a few days. I was in the hospital tues - thurs and came to my parents house to rest. i have 2 big dogs plus the kids. I was worried about them jumping on me. The pain is more than I expected but it's important to walk alot. My husband took off work surgery day and went in late the last few days to get them out in the morning.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
