I'm so very sorry to hear this, my thoughts are with you and your dear husband. I hope you can find reasons to have joy and laughter every day nonetheless, the moments you can share together and will remain in your heart forever.

I lost my dad way too young to melanoma, cancer is a relentless bitch of a disease. I'm just so sorry. <3

Thank you everyone. I don't know what to do with myself. I'm strong for him during the day but when he sleeps, I cry. The worse thing is looking into his eyes knowing nothing can be done. I asked his PCP TWO YEARS AGO to do a CT because he has two brothers and his Dad that died from cancer. He is the baby of the family at 48. He just had a birthday in October. Every doctor we see says it is too far gone. My husband hasn't ever been a complainer. Never been sick. Then he just got really sick two months ago. I did ask the Dr to do a ct two years ago, a year ago, then in August, November and then he got so sick in Dec. HE just didn't see the need eventhough Bear's family had cancer. I think something could have been done if HE had just listened to me and done the scan. We could have caught it early. Now they say any treatment may shorten his life. GOD... I'm so lost. My husband is the best man I know.

Yes, I'm still having esophageal spasms and GERD issues. I pray everyday for strength. I need to be here for my husband. He is a shell of his former self. So sad. My heart is shattered. I'm thankful I have my faith and Jesus by me. This isn't about me though, it is about him. I put my pride on the floor when I put up the fundraiser. I hated doing it but sometimes you just have to.

Thank you for all of your prayers and well wishes. I love all of you. If you look at the pictures on the fundraiser page.. you can see he has aged 20 years. :( I don't know what I will do without him.

I don't know what I will do without him.

You will be super sad and sometimes bitterly so. But (and remember this) you will also be okay. You will get through this and you'll be okay. Hang in there and cry at night all you need to.

One of the best pieces of advice I got when I lost my dad early and fast from cancer was "don't trouble trouble till trouble troubles you" Try to stay in the moment because if he doesn't get better, you will have the rest of your life to mourn, he is still with you now.

I am thinking of you.

Lynda

Prayers to you and your family Lisa. Try your best to stay in the moment with him. Enjoy every minute you have while he is here. I believe in miracles and will be praying for one to manifest in him. I admire you being able to stay strong for him. Keep posting here to vent. You need to let it out somewhere!

Sounds like you have been to a lot of experts. We you in US? Have you been to a National Cancer Institute Center. These are the research hospitals like Sloan Kettering, MD Anderson etc. That where you will find clinical trials. Also find specialist in that sort of cancer.

I went to NCI center when I had breast cancer and my brother going to NCI center with leukemia.

Go to www.cancer.gov to find one near you.

Also check out http://www.mskcc.org/cancer-care/adult/liver

With clinical trials

http://www.mskcc.org/cancer-care/adult/liver/clinical-trials

You may also be able to search clinicaltrials.gov to find near you

For example

Thank you so much for the information. Unfortunately, we have exhaused all possibilities. The Dr's say my husbands liver is non functioning and his lab levels are too high even to think about a liver transplant. They won't do treatment because it will shorten his life. He has diabetes and hasn't ever drank alcohol but has last stages of cirrohsis. It is called NASH. He has been sick for awhile but like I said we didn't know. He never complains. He has liver cancer on top of the cirrohosis and it is in the portal vein. Two days ago he had 16 pounds of Fluid taken off of his belly. The work before that , 10 pounds. I don't want to sound like I've given up but I have to be realistic. I am trying him on some natural things that will help cleanse his liver and Vitamins. That is all I know to do.

Gosh, I hurt for you, Lisa. I've seen that helpless look in my wife's eyes when I got diagnosed. Happily, our faith sustains us and has served us well through this. Looks like you have that too. At 65 I can tell you, life in this present form is short for all of us. I will pray hard for you tonight.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
