My doc had on my list of post op medicine that was allowed was milk of magnesia. I rarely take that stuff. Min dosage didn't really do much but when I added the other part to the full dose it was bad. Lol.

Hi All ,4th day post op ,on clear Soups Water and apple juice ,feeling good but dizzy at times. Can I take senokot or something for Constipation as I have not been to the bathroom since my banding on Monday.all advice is appreciated.

Very common issue with bandsters. Check with your doctor and follow his/her instructions. Also...pain meds tend to increase that problem so talk to the doctor about that as well.

I was very glad to finally "go" -- did the Milk of Magnesia routine and had to run for the bathroom right around day four or so. Also drank Smooth Move tea. Agree talking to surgeon's office is important. It's a very common issue and I wished my doctor would have dealt with this aspect ahead of time -- and I didn't even do pain meds which are notoriously constipating. You will be feeling much better soon!

Just an FYI, I still have troubles in this department. I think my body was used to so much more volume in terms of veggies -- I was a huge salad and veggie eater and now I'm eating so much less of course. So I've been having flax seeds, chia seeds, having an occasional beet juice if I go to a juice bar, Miracle Fiber in my shakes, psyllium, Fiber Chews -- you name it. Finally I figured out I needed more magnesium. I used to take three big calcium/magnesium tablets each night for bones, sleep, etc., but magnesium is important for other things as well. Like digestion! I stopped taking the pills because they are too big and chalky. Got a liquid version and that is working great. For ME. Every one is different, etc. Good luck to you!

I was banded on Thursday the 6th...I took Senna on saturday...that seemed to help.I was up 8 lbs from thursday...and I'd only had Water, broth and sf Jello...this morning I'm down that 8 lbs + another lb.

Starving though! Today I get to add Protein powders and Soups with no chunks....so I think I'm going to run to the store and get some more soups...I have 3 on hand...and I go back to work tomorrow...and I want to get some sf popsicles...I can have those...just didn't buy any...but at this point I think anything helps.

I had my surgery on Friday February 7. Lost 14 pounds so far. Just Drinking Water, juice, and chicken noodle broth. Today I woke up very constipated. Tried using bathrooms already twice but can't go. I can't drink the milk of mag....it's just to nasty. Yesterday I went to bathroom and everything was running and watery. I thought that was normal because of current diet. I am not complaining, love this new lifestyle change. I just don't want to walk around all day feeling constipated. Any other suggestions?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
