2 days post op concerns...

Recommended Posts

I have no trouble getting in fluids. I took 3 good sized sips without any problem and probably could have tolerated more but was afraid. Did they even removed 80percent of my stomach? I was able to eat an entire yogurt too.

Also, no bowel movement in days. No urge at all.

Any feedback is appreciated.

I have only moved my bowels once a week since I've been sleeved. When I was able to eat yogurt I did eat the entire 6oz container a few times. It's been 5 weeks and I can only eat half before I am full.

You've only gone 1 time a week? Isn't it painful when you go? I haven't gone in three days, so I just took some milk of magnesium. I can only eat a half of the container of yogurt (3 oz). I see there are quite a few people who can eat the 6 full oz with no problem.

how about the amount of food and drink you can tolerate in one sitting? iam just 2 days post op and I can drink and eat a good amount 4oz at one. Is this bad?

2 days post op and no pain or discomfort when you eat it? You are very lucky! No, I don't think that's bad at all.

I had zero trouble taking in fluids immediately after surgery. I too felt concerned, but not struggling with Fluid intake is a blessing. I've had no trouble hitting both my Water and Protein goals from the very beginning, and as others will come along to say, the restriction really does improve as you move along to denser foods and Proteins.

As for the bowel stuff, it's normal for your bowels to take a few days to start back up again after abdominal surgery. I experienced the same thing post-VSG and post C-Section a few times. I do recommend taking a stool softener for a couple of days so that when it is time to go, it's more comfortable to go.

I am just reaching four months out and I still have problems occasionally with my bowl movements as I did after surgery. I take Equate, Walmart brand stool softener daily. The percentage of your stomach you need to find out directly from your doctor. A lot of people will give you the answer of 1/3rd, but percentages for different programs and per patient requests varies. Your doing great! Welcome to the other side :-) :-)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
