At 3 weeks postOp I didn't want anything beyond the liquids & mushie phase. Chinese Soups yes, but there was little else I wanted or even though I could risk eating.

Don't know what your Dr has recommended....my first 'real food' following the mushie phase was a poached egg. It took a long time to get it all down...and it really was a taste sensation.

I recall developing a fondness for a tiny swirl of Peanut Butter swirled in a 1/2 cup of yoghurt....and still have it now & then.

Even now 9+ years postOp "Chinese food" means most of it goes home for 2-3-4th meal.

Soft noodle Soup was a hit when I was able to eat that too, about 5-6 weeks postOp. Don't break whatever your Dr. told you.

I wasn't able to eat rice for a long LONG time postOp. Maybe soft squishy stuff. Are you using a blenderizer yet?

egg drop Soup. i don't know what phase you are in to give you any other advice. you need to us your doctor orders first. and than we will come unglued with suggestions. but most asian places are very high in fat so perhaps keep your eye on the menu for the freshest cooked items that can be grilled. grilled shrimp wouldn't be a bad choice. and be sure to nibble. let everyone else have at it but you don't want a stuck issue you are still a baby, so nibble swallow, wait and nibble again. order hot tea.

I'm Coming out of mushie phase now. No shrimps or meat or anything at all like that yet. I might eat like 1 scallop and be happy lol

I think a nice hot and sour Soup would do you well, it tastes great and would be very filling!

What about eating a small amount of what you are allowed to eat before you go to the restaurant? It could help with your appetite, and that sweet and sour Soup would slow you down. An added bonus, your family won't notice how little you are eating because you can take your time with hot soup. Good luck! Restaurants were a big challenge for me since we frequently eat out. Once my husband understood there was no point in ordering a full meal for myself, he happily shares a few choice bites off his plate while I choose an amazing soup or a favorite side salad. Someone gave me good advice in the beginning' know where the ladies room is, just in case. Good luck and enjoy your family time!

FYI my nutritionist said the following:

Here are some Chinese food Suggestions:

Pick a Protein like tofu or dark meat chicken with mixed vegetables. Shrimp is a good choice too if you can tolerate it. Moo Shoo Vegetables is another dish worth trying. Ask your server to "go light on the oil" to limit calories. Stir frying is another good choice. Black bean sauce or garlic sauce with little oil are other options. Fish dishes at Chinese restaurants are usually very moist and tender and are good picks. If you can tolerate dumplings try steamed vegetable dumplings-make sure to ask for a sauce on the side to lubricate the dumpling as they tend to be sticky. White rice tends to be sticky. Lubricate brown rice or other rice in the sauce from your entrée or with soy or duck sauce. Soups like miso, hot and sour, egg drop or wonton can be consumed alone as a meal or an appetizer.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
