Constant stomach pains..

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery Nov "12 and have lost a total of 120lbs. My situation right now is I'm having this extreme pain in my stomach that's making me nauseas, I want to throw up but nothing's coming out. Sorry for the details I just don't know what to do. Plus sucks just found out Monday I no longer have health insurance. Please if someone's had similar problems let me know what this could be and what I can do. Thanks

I would go to emergency room or clinic. Get treatment while you can. It could be lots of things. Gallbladder, twisted bowl. No need to chance it if you are having that much pain.....sorry just retread that u have no insurance.....call your dr anyway.

I don't know about all states or ERs but here where I live the ER cannot turn you away. My sister had to be seen in the ER and had no insurance. Upon receiving the bill she called to set up payment arrangements. Because she is lie income she could only afford small payments of $10 a month. The woman in the billing department asked her a few questions about her income, sent her a form to be filled out and upon verifying her savings (or lack thereof) and checking account waived her bill.

Don't let the lack of insurance keep you from getting the medical attention you need.

Had my surgery one year ago today. Down 138. RNY. the past week I've had horrid stomach pains. Ended up in ER. Had CT scan of abdomen and it was negative. My primary doc thinks it is IBS. Hadn't had that in a while but had this years ago. Prescribe antispasmodal today. Hoping it works. This is NO fun. Good luck to you:-) and congrats!

Thanks everyone. I should've explained my situation a little better. Ok back in 2012 after the surgery they had done some type of test to see if everything went alright..well it turned out that a piece of my stomach never closed. Doctor said we'll wait and see if it closes on it's own, which it never did. So went back an did an endoscopic to fix the the hole. Same day doctor tells me they see an ulcer, now I'm on medication for that. This was Feb 2013 I had the fix. Couple of months passed by and I'm loosing weight like a champ. then in august I started having these really bad pains..Geeze just my luck I have gallstones. Bladders been removed. So really not sure if any of this contributes to any of the pain I've been having. I'm guessing it might be my ulcer because dumb me hasn't taken my medication in awhile. I figure I'd try my meds for the week and see where that takes me...if not it's off to the hospital I go!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
