Biggest Loser Finale

Recommended Posts

I know it's being debated heavily in the media right now, but I was interested if anyone here caught the finale of the biggest loser last night? What did you guys think of Rachel's weight loss, her final weight? I am so happy she was able to change her life, but I am so sad for her...it seems as though she traded one eating disorder for another. Could be assuming on my part, but with her height and weight, her BMI is 16...which is 2 points under where someone is considered underweight. I just fear the message it will send to people. Thoughts?!?

I did not see the show but did see her pics today online. She looks very ill. I hope she gets some help.

At 105 pounds, it looks to me like she needs to find a weight at which she is going to be healthy, especially since she has become athletic. She didn't look short, so I would assume that 105 pounds will not support athleticism for very long. So yeah, she needs to let it go and eat a sandwich.

Addiction is addiction. And sometimes we trade one for another. Some people who lose weight go the other way and become sick like she has...She needs counseling. What bothers me is that they put it out there as a positive thing the winner is....For goodness sake ...Does no one have a clue that one can be as bad as the other.....how many teens watched that and said she is a good role model..look out I need to look like her....

On day one when the show started I picked Rachel out of all the contestants to win The Biggest Loser this season. I just saw something in her and I knew she would be a fighter. Yes my jaw dropped when I saw her walk out on stage and yes I do think she got very thin. With that said however, I do believe that she was so focused and driven on winning the game aspect of the show that she didn't even take into consideration that she might not be in a healthy BMI range. I also think the athlete/competitor in her took over, she knew she was going to go up against guys that weighed more than her and could afford to lose more weight and could easily lose at least 50% of their body weight (which they did) so she probably felt she needed to fight that much harder to lose even more weight in order to win the game. I think sometimes it's harder to win a game like this when you don't have as much weight to lose as some of the other contestants on the show. She was already within 5 pounds of an ideal weight for her height when she left the show but it's clear she didn't feel that would have been enough to beat the boys in the finale.

The looks on the trainers faces said it all. I'm sure they took her aside after the show and talked to her about.

I think she looked emaciated and wanted someone to give her a sandwich right away but I think or hope that the 105 was just to win the $250,000. Many of the previous winners get down to an unsustainable weight for just the finale. Squeezing down every pound that they can just for the win and then gain back some weight to get back to a sustainable weight. She did strike me as the type that was an extremist throughout the show.

Excellent points. I agree, I think the game probably took over and she didn't realize she had gone too far. I hope you are right and someone took the time to talk to her about it. I would hope there is a positive spin on all of this, and she becomes a more healthy weight!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
