4th fill, need advice

Recommended Posts

I had my 4th fill Monday for a total in my band of 5ccs. Did the 2 days of liquids and am now eating some eggs with veggies. After 3 bites I am noticing some soft hiccups. It looks delicious and I want to eat it but I'm wondering if my body is telling me no. I also have a sort of full feeling in the back of my throat, like I have a burp trapped. Does that sound to you veterans like a signal to stop? I've only had 3 bites! But in no way do I want to push it, so I will listen to your advice!

You will only know if you continue.....may be nothing, may be a lesson learned the hard way...either way, you'll know...

And then you may receive a lesson (or not) what it's like to eat too much...or to get stuck...all sorts of things to learn...

For me it is something entirely different....What you have described, for me that is a signal to put the fork down, take a pause.......could be as long as 1-2 minutes...then see what happens when I continue...then I'll know...

I just put my fork down. I decided it wasn't worth it. Retraining my brain to stop is tricky! But I'm glad to say I am satisfied after 3 bites. Just took some introspection...I can do this! Thanks all!

I would have thought it to be 'first bite syndrome'. This sometimes happens after the first couple of bites. Theres no way I'd be full after 3 bites but everyone is so different.

I'm guessing you did the right thing. Besides, if you are hungry in a little while, you can have something to eat. LOL

For me, it could mean one of several things?

1. I don't need to eat anymore, I'm no longer hungry.

2. I'm eating too fast and food is backing up into my esophagus.

3. I'm eating too big and/or not chewing enough and food is impacted in my pouch causing food to back up into my esophagus.

4. My band is behaving badly or is finicky this morning and no matter what I eat or how I eat, Ms Band isn't having any of it.

5. I may have eaten too much sodium previously, or my body and/or stomach lining is swollen from a bug or a stuck episode.

When this happens, I do like B-52 suggested. I pause a few minutes, I'll even have a sip of Water to make sure there's no food stuck in my pouch. Then, I'll have another small bite to see what Ms Band wants and then decide to continue or call it quits till the next meal.

There is probably still some swelling if you just got a fill on Monday. They say take it easy for a couple of days but I usually need about a week.

Ok, it just happened to me....had a bowl of salad with turkey, onions, tomatoes, et, etc....

Took small swallows, chewed well....4th or 5th swallow I got that feeling as though I cannot possibly take another swallow.....put the fork down, put the salad aside.....

After about 5 minutes, the feeling went away and I felt I could continue...took one more small swallow....feeling came back immediately.....put the fork down....few minutes later the hiccups started....to me that means I just crossed the line.....cannot possibly go any further now...cannot drink anything either.

I was finished with that meal....covered it and put in fridge to bring home......will have it as a side along with my Protein entree....

I will say though, salads are not very band friendly with me...(lettuce).... And that's why I ate so little.....Normally It would not be my first, or second choice, but I'm at the hospital and I grabbed it in the cafeteria....I usually have Soup when I'm here.

hiccups are usually a sign for me to stop now if I know what is good for me. Whenever I ignore those hiccups it usually never ends well. It ends up with me in the bathroom praying to the porcelain gods.

Hiccups are also a sign to me I am finished. If you listen to your body you will know.

I am with B-52!! When I start the hiccups, that is it and I am hoping that I didn't just step over the line. If I stepped over the line, I then get pain in the center of my chest. I can't drink anything when it gets that far. I just sit and try to relax and hope it goes down. I need to realize just because I was always told to eat what is on my plate as a child, I just can't do that now. I started using the small plates and just put on a smaller portion. That is now enough to fill me. These are all the signs you will learn in time. I was banded in October 2013 and I am still learning!! Best of luck to you!!

I was banded in September 2013 and am finding the learning curve is huge. It seems maybe my PA is conservative with fills but I am glad for that as it's taking me a while to learn my mechanics and signals. After this last fill I finally feel restriction and increased satiety. Let the melting begin!!!

By the way I've already lost 53% of my excess weight so even without restriction I was doing something right! Glad to learn from all the vets tho!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
