lctexas 0 Posted March 26, 2007 Hello everyone. I have a surgery date for the second of April. I am so excited but at the same time very nervous. I have been sleeping very little because it is getting so close. And no one knows I am doing this besides my husband and my best friend. The questions I have to ask is first what did everyone do to prepare for the surgery before and after? And my Dr. told me that I could eat chewable Flinstones Vitamins. But I have found chewable Centrum vitamins. And I fell like I will get what I need out of these. Does anyone know if this is ok. As these have a fruit taste to them. I have already bought my Protein packets. So I will be ready for that. But any more good advice/my questions. Thank you to all and I look forwards to making new friends thrue this long hall. Stacey I am blessed:clap2:
juliegeraci 7 Posted March 27, 2007 Hi Stacey, I would just make sure your house is packed with all the right foods. Plenty of chicken brother, popsicles, crystal light. I would also stop your pureed foods like instant mashed potatoes, creamy Soups (those were a life saver for me). I understand how you feel about being nervous. I had a break down prior to my surgery like "what in the heck am I doing". It is natural to be scared. Good luck.
Sparkette 0 Posted March 27, 2007 Hi! My surgery is scheduled for April 3rd!! Maybe we can keep track of each other! I've been using the Flinstones chewables. My cousin got banded over a year ago, and she takes one everyday. Her doctor told her to use them. She's lost close to 80 pounds now, and is about where she want's to be. I'm sure the Centrum chewables are just fine! Good Luck, and hope to hear more from you soon! If you'd like to e-mail me personally, it's sparks2n2@yahoo.com Donna:nervous

ReneBean 3 Posted March 27, 2007 Centrum vitimins are fine. Just make sure that any meds you take are either REALLY small - or liquid, or chewable. Brands dont' make a whole lot of difference - you just don't want anything that is going to get lodged in your band. ***Oh - and don't stock more than a couple of any one item. I found that I had WAY more broth than I could ever use - and if you don't like the Protein shakes well enough to drink them every day - just get a few. They will get old REALLY fast. Hugs!! LoriPA 4 Posted March 27, 2007 This was the pre-op things I did before I went into the hospital last week (I was banded March 22) 1. Cleaned all cupboards and refrigerator, replacing with food such as sugar free Jello, puddings, broths, cream Soups, Splenda, Decaf tea and coffee, sugar free Popsicles, plain yogurt, reduced calorie fruit juices (except citrus), unsweetened apple sauce, bottled Water, etc. 2. Throughly cleaned the house and did as much laundry as possible. You will not be permitted to bend at the waist or lift anything over ten pounds at least the first two weeks post-op. 3. Made sure there were plenty of cat supplies in (food and litter) until I was healed, and someone could come in to feed the cats while I was in the hospital. 4. Gathered up all emergency contacts, insurance information, medication lists, listed present medical conditions for admissions office, and arranged for transportation to and from hospital. 5. Packed things for hospital at least the night before--slip on shoes, my CPAP mask (I have apnea), sports bra, change of underclothes, slippers and something to put under the hospital gown so my butt wasn't "flapping in the breeze" once I was able to get out of bed to move. JeninCO 0 Posted March 27, 2007 Wow. So much to learn. My doctor really hasn't told me much. My surgery's scheduled for April 12 and I've heard nothing about most of the above. Just the liquid diet needs to start three days before my surgery. I'm freaking out a little. Just a little.
