Any tasty puree ideas?

Recommended Posts

A nurse from my clinic called today. She said that if I continue doing well,I can start pureed foods on Thursday. Does anyone have any good ideas for me? My guide from the clinic has a sample meal plan and some guidelines, but it also says that I could buy baby food in the jars if I want. YUCK, no thanks! What I've been craving for the last few weeks is Protein, especially eggs and chicken. How can I make some purees that will taste good? I know about unsweetened applesauce. I think I'll make my own.

I remember I saw a WLS documentary where the Dr encouraged the patient to buy store made shepherds pie and liquidate it with some clear broth. The patient poured it into an ice tray and froze it. Whenever it was meal time he took one cube out and microwaved it. I don't know whether it was any good but he seemed to enjoy it, maybe shepherd's pie could be alternated with something else like tuna casserole or chicken pot pie

No idea, but we did a meat with some sauce to make it better and not as dry. Many people do refried Beans with a little hot sauce/ Tomato sauce. Best wisehs, hopefully others will give you good ideas. Karen..aka..kll724

My favorite puréed food is cauliflower (preferable STEAMED- but it can be boiled) once they are soft throw it in a blender or food processor, add cream cheese and a little bit if butter, blend to the consistency of mashed potatoes..... So good!!

I agree...a favorite of mine too...never added cream cheese though..will have to try that yum, yum!

Depending on what your doctor considers purees (consistency wise) ...here are some things I had.

tuna , chicken , egg salad with light mayo pureed in magic bullet

93% ground beef made into taco meat pureed in magic bullet

wendy chilis pureed in magic bullet with a little sour cream

no-noodle lasagne....ricotta cheese and some parmesan cheese layered with spaghetti sauce

pureed baked chicken w/ little bit of gravy and very smooth loose mashed potatoes

If I could puree it I pretty much did....didnt always look that appealing but after 4 weeks of liquids it tasted SO delicious.

Hope that helps you some! ENJOY!

I tried to make the purée stage as easy as possible. I threw whatever my family were having in the blender. It didn't always look the best but always tasted the same. The only thing I didn't like was Pasta. I found it became too starchy.

I puréed chilli, buttered chicken, Soups, etc.

Be creative. Remember, variety is the spice of life! It's easier to get through the stage if you are eating tasty food.

I made some great Soups for this stage. One of my favorites was butternut squash green apple. I used fat free milk so it was lower calorie but very satisfying. I agree - I didn't feed my children jarred baby food, and wasn't about to eat it myself. The other thing I did was purée onion, celery, carrots, etc in beef broth for a smooth vegetable Soup with lots of good for you ingredients. I had so much fun with different recipes that I really didn't mind this stage. Even basil Tomato Soup with fat free milk tasted good

I've been craving hard boiled eggs since my pre-op diet, so I puréed some together yesterday with a bit of Water, light mayo and salt. It was revolting. :( The lesson I learned is egg salad tastes good...egg purée, very bad. On a tastier note, I made extra lean ground beef and spaghetti sauce last night, and then puréed a very small portion for myself, and topped it with a tiny bit of well grated light parmesan cheese. That was delicious. I also bought light ricotta cheese, and I'm going to make a lasagna without the noodles like Chasing a Dream had suggested. I'm finding since going on to the puréed stage, I'm starting to feel fuller for longer, and eating much smaller portions. Yay!

I love to cook. I pureed everything from Chili, Stuffed Peppers, chicken w/gravy & ate like that until they said I could have more solid foods.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
