You can do it Nancy! If I can, I know you can. Diet Pepsi is crack! That and Pelligrino Water. OMG!

It's been a year now and I am living proof it can be done. Have to say in the last year I have learned how awful diet soda is.

Great luck to you!

You got this!

Nancy, I was a very bad Coke/Pepsi Drinker. I could not go without a trip to McDonalds at least twice a day for my Large Coke and then at night drink Pepsi. I stopped cold turkey on January 11,2014. I started my preop diet that next day. I had my Sleeve done on January 21,2014. I didn't think I could do it. Giving up my Coke/Pepsi habit was the hardest thing I had to do. But you know what happened? After I took that last drink of Pepsi, and kissed my old friend goodbye, it was a lot easier than I thought it would be. I haven't missed it. I am so happy with my weight loss that I don't even think about it. I guess what I miss more is drinking with a straw!! That has taken more to get used to than drinking the Soda. Good Luck on your journey, trust me you wont miss it once you don't have it.

Man, I hear ya on the Diet Pepsi addiction! I used to be able to go through a 2 liter bottle in 24 hours. Gross. When I quit, I transitioned to seltzer, and then Water and Crystal light pre-op. Diet Pepsi makes you hungrier. It made me crave salty/crunchy junk food. I am glad I am free of it! One less vice to deal with!

I switched to caffine free diet coke and pepsi for awhile. It just stopped being enjoyable without the buzz. It made it much easier to quit for me.

This is my biggest addiction. I don't have my date yet so I haven't quit my diet coke yet but I definitely need to. I'm so addicted.

At dinner tonight at home I realized I was pulling out my last Diet Pepsi out of the fridge. That's it, my costco stockpile I bought several months ago is finally gone. I am not exactly kicking my "Coke" habit just yet but it is finally out of my home. I do not drink coffee so giving up caffeine will be tough once I finally give it up since it my only vice. Good luck to you, it will suck at first but bubble are overrated, keep them for the bubble bath.

Well if i can quit cold turkey coffee and starbucks you can stop the madness with Pepsi. Fyi I gave up all soda when i saw what it can do especially raw hamburger.. Check it out and do the experiement for your self. Fyi, i use Coke for cleaning my glass on the shower doors it works on soap skum. who knew?

GIRL! This was seriously my biggest fear. I was a COKE-A-HOLIC!!! I had my last one on Thanksgiving day (2013). It was a couple of weeks prior to my pre-op diet. Seriously with the surgery to look forward to and to occupy my brain, I never missed a beat. I knew it was what I had to do and I did it. Never did I think it would be that easy. You can do it!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
