Ah! Just had my Sleeve Surgery on 01/31/14 gotta say I did not expect any of that happened.. :(

Although I was prepared mentally (or thought I was) I feel like I had and have no clue where to go from here

The gas pain is unbelievable.. besides that I am top, I was out of the hospital in 3 days but now I have no clue as to where to go and what to expect I am uber excited about this journey but terrified at the same time.. glad I found this forum! any tips and advice would be much appreciated!

I am so sorry to hear that yet another sleever has suffered from that awful trapped CO2. In my last pre-op visit with my surgeon, I asked him how his team manages shoulder gas. He said, and I quote "We extract as much as possible". Consequently, I did not have a trapped gas problem. If preventing it is that easy, then what the H@#& is the matter with all of these other doctors that just stitch, glue, and tape you back together, leaving you to deal with it????? WTH?

First and foremost, call your Doctor and they will tell you what you need to do.

Are you walking? That helps release the gas that builds up.

Didn't they give you a booklet of things to expect about the surgery and the do's and don'ts?

Drink your Water

WALK

good luck...let us know how you are doing...

I never had any gas pain, but I understand that walking is key in dissipating the gas.

Follow your team's instructions for diet and rest up!

Thanks everyone for the walking tips! I tried inverting myself a bit and that seemed to move the gas from my shoulders into my abdomen.. urgh Gas X is really helping lol

I was given a small booklet with information on diet i should follow the first two weeks then my 3-4 week diet then my 5 week start. Just nervous cause I was being told there are certain things you should not eat that the docs don't tell you about that can cause dumping like popcorn :s just want to try to make this as easy on myself as i can... I know it won't be that simple but just hope I make the right choices :D thanks again everyone!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
